Saint Mary’s 7 Landon 3

The Bears 2010 season was defined by an early overtime season over the Saints of Annapolis. This year’s match up had added significance because STM had good victories over DeMatha and Gonzaga. Initially, the home team showed a lot of promise, taking a 3-0 lead.

Landon senior Pearce Minshall took a feed from Pat Keena at 5:58 to go up 1-0. Keena then found Tommy Minkler at 4:43 to make it 2-0. The senior Annapolis bound (USNA) attackman connected with soph A Peter Laco on an extra man play to go up 3-0 at 1:23

The Blue clad visitors clawed back in the second period. Goals (unassisted) by Coyle Spencer and Pat Manley (EMO) at 7:46 and 0:12 fired up the Saints. In particular the Saints goalie, Skyler Morse, became impenetrable, making several spectacular saves including more than one point blank shots and once with no defender between him and the shooting Bear.

The next 12 minutes were dominated by the Saints. Goals by Nate Lewnes, KC Beard and again by KC on an EMO pass from Pat Manley (10:29,9:59 and 0:13).

End of 3^rd Q STM 5 Landon 3

The Bears made an uncharacteristically large number of penalties— due to extra effort to cause turnovers and to frustration. The Saints choose to control the ball for many of these 30 and 60 second advantages (including one penalty in which the Bears were multiple men down). The Bear offensive opportunities were repeatedly snuffed by the Saints’ goalie and D. KC Beard got his hat trick at 9:36 and Robert Fox buried their 7^th goal at 6:17.

Hopefully this inexperienced, talented Bear team will learn what they need to do to win.
