Homecoming this year brought a WCAC opponent the Bishop O’Connell High School to Bordley Stadium. The alumni enjoyed 3 Bear touchdowns:

  1. The 1st in Q and it was the home team’s first possession–

        1. MACK DOCKX  2 carries for ~15 yds;

        1. ROBERT SWIFT  1 sweep for ~23 yds,

        1. ALEX POPE for ~6 yds

        1. EMMANUEL COLEMAN for ~5 yds

    1. The TD was a ~5 yard run @3:30—PAT GOOD

  2. Q2 this score was set up by the Bear D causing a fumble (couldn’t see who; please email me with the name of players who caused and/or recovered the ball

    1. ON the 1st PLAY FROM SCRIMMAGE a beautiful pass from MACK and an equally incredible pass catch by EMMANUEL @6:08 PAT GOOD

  3. Now in the final period and again the Landon defenders set the Bears’ THIRD score

    1. The younger brother of Bear ’26 alum/now Deerfield stud, DP POPE, intercepted a O’C pass and ran it back for what all of the crowd saw as a 35yd TD, but the referees denied ALEX POPE credit for 6 points

    1. The Bear O set up at the 1 yd line MATT crashed into the end zone for the second time in this game. PAT GOOD @ 7:27

Many in the crowd were impressed that the Landon D “consistently bent but did not break” [credit attributed to Fritz Shurmur, a longtime NFL defensive coordinator and coach. He popularized the concept during his tenure with teams like the Los Angeles Rams and later the Green Bay Packers in the 1980s and 1990s].
