MAPHL QUARTER FINAL Landon 4 DeMatha 2

The Stags of Hyattsville, a traditional WCAC sports powerhouse, beat StA to earn a game against the Bears. DM is known for its physical play (leading the league with 139 PIMs) against the team leading in goals and GF/GA differential. The visitors do not lack for O power with the #2 goal scorer on their roster.

On their first shift Landon beat the opposing goalie with a score by Junior #10OWEN MOORE who shot back a rebound sent to the goal mouth by Senior #3REID PEHRKON @14:14. The remaining 854 seconds went without registration on the overhead scoreboard. Landon put 18 SOGs; while the Stags mounted 4 at SENIOR #30 JACK LICALSI who saved all.

The middle period was marked by 2 penalties against the White Sweaters and those advantages resulted in 2 PPs at 3:47 and again at 1:16. These is something magical about the beginnings and ends of periods; for OWEN got his 2nd tally with APPLES to REID and SOPH #14TRIPP SILVA. The clock read 0:06.

JACK stopped 5 of 7 SOGs. His teammates’ O production was 7 SOGs, too.

The last 15 minutes for one team demanded a careful game. Both squads checked carefully and unsupported rushes into the offensive zones were limited. A BEAR HAT TRICK was accomplished by OWEN@6:30 with an assist credited to REID.

DM facing a 2 goal deficit took a timeout and pulled the Stag G at 2:59. Coach Parker’s players played a strong defense and consumed seconds craved by DM by icing pucks frequently. REID was able to add to his MAPHL lead with an empty net score worthy of #8.

JACK stopped all 8 of the visitors’ shots; his peer at the other end of the ice blocked 6 shots; the EN goal does not count against his record.
