Landon10 Woodson 4 (H) 3/25

Mar 25, 2010
3 min read

One of the reasons Coach Bordley rarely has to rebuild and usually reloads is how he approaches a team like Woodson, one of No. Virginia better public high school teams. Today the Bears who will be leaders in future seasons were on the field when the score was 0-0; so next year or even later in 2010, when they called on to perform, they have been there, done that.

New names like Paul Adkins (1,1) Peter Laco (1,0), John Blizzard (1,0) and Dillon Rupp (0,1) were in the score book with Patrick Keena (3,1, Matt Opsahl (2,1) and Joe Paoletta (2,0).

The turning point in the game was during the second period when the Bear defense made it very difficult for the Cavaliers to clear. Interceptions Kiel Weigmann), caused turn overs (Luke Howard) and ground balls (Jack Findaro 5GBs) cut off Woodson’s offensive chances. the defensive zone was ably manned by Alex Joyce, Milan Bhatt, Mark Strabo and others.

Wes Lincoln had a great day at the X. Both he and Justin Murphy stayed on the field and got some nice shots off (no longer FOGOs?)

1.When did you start playing lacrosse: I started playing lacrosse in 6th grade, the year I came to Landon.

2. What brand/model stick do you have and who strings it for you: I have a Brine Swizzle shaft with a Brine Clutch X head strung by our very own Bobby Horsey.

3. Who is your favorite college lacrosse player and what team do you follow: My favorite college lacrosse player is Max Seibald, who graduated from Cornell last year and now plays for the Denver Outlaws, but my favorite team to watch Syracuse.

4.What is your senior project: For my senior project I’m going to Easton, MD to build houses with Habitat for Humanity.

5.Where will you be next year:  I’m not sure yet where I’ll be going next year because I’m still waiting to hear back from a bunch of schools next week, but if everything works out then hopefully Princeton.

6.You are a very accomplished cross country runner and succeed in other sports; what lessons, disciplines, exercises and other skills that you have gained in them do you use in lacrosse?

To run cross country, you have to be a little bit of a masochist, and running has taught me to be even more so, it has taught me to enjoy all the hard work and the pain that comes with it because you know in the long run it’s making you a better athlete and ultimately, and more importantly, a better person. The most important thing cross country has taught me is the value of this hard work. Because cross country is a sport that involves basically no skill, winners and losers are determined by two things: work ethic and natural talent. To succeed in cross country you need to have both of these, but only one of them is within your control. All you can do is work as hard as you can, because no matter how naturally gifted you are, there is always someone out there who is more gifted and who is working just a little bit harder. Everyday when I go out to the lacrosse field or into the weight room, I bring that same mindset with me to make myself a better lacrosse player.

If someone believes that a player or group (offense/defense; middies/attack/ LSMs/close defense/goalies/FOGO/coaches/manager/ etc.) should receive greater attention, I am open to such suggestions.
