[this option is open to all Landon Varsity teams {plus the Shrimp Bowl &Landon Cup}; BSN is zooming around to follow the very successful Bears BB and hockey teams; but BSN WELCOMES all such reports. See below for further thoughts below.]

GO BEARS!!!

On Saturday, January 14 the Landon Varsity Indoor Track & Field team traveled to Alexandria Virginia to participate in the Maroon and Black Relays hosted by Episcopal High School.  The meet featured a dedication for the newly renovated Flippin Field House that now has a state of the art track surface, new lighting and score board.  The meet included WCAC power house Gonzaga and Paul VI, IAC rival Georgetown Prep, and MAC teams Georgetown Day and St. Andrews.  The Bears finished in fourth place behind host Episcopal for their highest finish in the meets history.

In the shot put Seniors James Craig ’11<http://www.athletic.net/TrackAndField/Athlete.aspx?AID=405618> and Everett Rankin ‘11<http://www.athletic.net/TrackAndField/Athlete.aspx?AID=1639655> took 5th and 12th respectively.  They both had their personal best indoor performances.

In the first running event, Randall Seeger ’12<http://www.athletic.net/TrackAndField/Athlete.aspx?AID=570626> opened up the sprint medley relay with a split to 55.1 seconds to give the Bears a lead they would not relinquish.  They finished in first place with a time of 3:48.47.  It is the third fastest time to date in Maryland behind Century H.S (Sykesville) and Catoctin HS (Thurmont) as posted on Athletic.net<http://www.athletic.net/TrackAndField/Division/Event.aspx?DivID=26291&Gender=M&Event=90>.  Malachi Bostic-Watley ‘13<http://www.athletic.net/TrackAndField/Athlete.aspx?AID=1881748> (200 m), Wynston Bouknight ’11<http://www.athletic.net/TrackAndField/Athlete.aspx?AID=405617> (200 m) and Mac Hightower ’12<http://www.athletic.net/TrackAndField/Athlete.aspx?AID=474788> (800 m) rounded out this school record setting performance.

The 4 x 200 meter relay team of Johnny Sharp’12<http://www.athletic.net/TrackAndField/Athlete.aspx?AID=569282>, Bouknight, Robert Tapparo’11<http://www.athletic.net/TrackAndField/Athlete.aspx?AID=405648> and Bostic-Watley finished second to the Purple Eagles of Gonzaga missing a win by 0.49 seconds from a slower heat.

In the final event of the day, Landon’s 4 x 400 meter relay team of Brandon Gleklan ’11<http://www.athletic.net/TrackAndField/Athlete.aspx?AID=405626>, Seeger, Bostic-Watley and M. Hightower dropped seven seconds off their time from December and posted a third place finish in a time of 3:40.92.

Landon’s next major competition will be January 25 when they travel to Georgetown Prep to compete in the Last Chance to Philly Invitational.

Any coaches, who would like to have me publish their teams’ accomplishments, please feel free to send me your reports. The point of BSN is to chronicle these boys’ and their coaches’ efforts. I would love to be able to attend all of the Bear events (athletic and extra circular activities), but there are limits to my time and more relevantly to my ability to comment somewhat intelligently on the achievements of the Bears.

N.B. due to a severe personal bias and under the guise (disguise?) of limited space, BSN reserves the right to exclude reports about Bears who have decided to go to that university in New Haven (Central Connecticut Community College a/k/a ʎale Ũniversity)
