Landon School Football 7 Woodberry Forest 35

The Tigers of Orange, VA must have been aware that their last three games against the Bears were losses. Perhaps more significantly the trees on the WF roster were big (11 players over 205#; 6 over 250#)– and long (28 over 72”) and diverse (8 states and 4 countries including one from Kyiv). To add to their overwhelming dimensions- 1 DE is committed to UVa, 1 to Stanford and now ND, plus their player of the game has yet to commit).  According to WFSPN’s Voices of the Tigers, their 1st year coach has brought new talent to their roster and a more sophisticated philosophy.

That said, the home team fought hard from minute 1 to the last second. Undersized Bears were able to use their speed and athleticism to compete. The O was able to gain yards (drives of 47, 54, 52(TD)), but were only able to cross the goal line once ( @6:08 of Q3,  a 3 yard TD run by DP Pope).

Landon kicked off and the Tigers drove 97 yards in ~5 minutes with a variety of plays.

The home team stopped a 30 yard Orange team drive (started Q1; ended Q2) forcing a 53 yard FG attempt- that missed. Three and out for Landon resulted in a punt to the WFS 35. A mixture of passes and runs led to a 45 yard TD @ 6:22. PAT good Tigers 14 Bears 0.

Possessions were short by both teams, but next time that the Tigers drove 16 yards for its 3rd TD, Then, the home team ran out of time on their own 21.

Landon received the kickoff and possessed the ball for 12 plays, 11 runs, 1 incomplete passes—it consumed ~8 minutes of Q3. The visitors used the remainder…

… and  0:15 of Q4 to make it 28-0.

Landon’s O clicked on a 4 cylinders (or rather 2 RBs)–Ethan Ming and DP Pope  ran the ball;  #14 covered the last 5 yards for a TD. PAT good.

With 6;04 remaining, some substitutes were on the field for the Brown & White—resulting in 2 fumbles. The Virginia Gentlemen immediately scored after the 1st miscue and needing more points, ahead 35-7 @ 1:18, the 31 yard field goal attempt hit the upright. The last plays for the home team showed some promise but  to no avail on the scoreboard.

NEXT WEEK LANDON TRAVELS TO HAVERFORD. PA TO PLAY THE UNDEFEATED 3-0 FORDS (they are playing a team tonight)
