LANDON loses to EHS 55-71 in hoops
The Bears played hard for 32 minutes trying to overcome their height disadvantage with aggressive defense and smart rebounding. Unfortunately, the #6 Maroon, supported by a home crowd that has not understood the spirit of the IAC Code of Conduct, prevailed, 71-55.
A quick start gave the Bears an early lead which they carried until 5:25 of the opening quarter, where they led 6-4 on scoring by Joe McDonaldand Addison Sarter. Seniors Arnaud Adala Moto (6’ 6”) and Foster Joseph (6’5”) scored the next 9 points in 3 minutes, EHS16-BEARS 11. That momentum carried the home team to a 23-17 FIRST QUARTER LEAD.
A determined band of Bears with many steals and multiple rebounds garnered due to superior positioning and/or leaping. After 5 minutes of such concerted efforts, the EHS lead of 6 went to ZERO, 26-26. Deion Wellingtonfound the range, scoring 7 points in the 8 minute segment to give the BEARS a 35-34 HALFTIME LEAD
The next quarter was not as successful (an EHS zone defense?) and the Maroon gunners (especially Doug Chappell) scoring 16 points to the Bears’ 12 (Joe had 10 of them). 3RDQUARTER SCORE EHS 50- 47
The home team advantage grew from 3 points to 10 in the first four minutes (Senior Kethan Savage emerged from the shadows) and then from that margin to the final 16 point spread from 1:30 remaining to the final seconds. FINAL SCORE EHS 71 BEARS 55
