DeMatha lacrosse was put on the DMV map by its alumnus, Paul Rabil (JHU AA, pro lacrosse star and founder of the PLL). The 2023 roster includes 4 Div. I, 1 Div. II and 4 Div. III recruits. Their season opening schedule was brutal—IMG, GP and Bullis. The Stags rebounded with wins over WCAC opponents- McNamara and Good Counsel. Heurich Field, named for a local prominent farmer, not the brewer who built the house where Landon was first located, has challenging turf, resulting in many slips by both teams.
The excited Stags got the first goal at 9:08. The Bears responded with scores by HANK MADDUX on a a typically fast clear- assist from WILL COHEN @8:44. The home team’s failed clear resulting in a visitors’ fast break- assist to ANTHONY SAVOY on a goal by HANK @7:24.
The Hyattsville squad responded with their second tally at 5:34.
TROY ULISNEY started a good ahead mark on a pass to ANTHONY S @4:35.
ELI SMINK protected the Bear nets for these 12 minutes -DM shots 5, L saves 3; L shots 5.
END OF Q1 BEARS 3 STAGS 2
DM scored its third (8:25) and fourth (3:21) goals in this section. ANTHONY PANETTI @ 3:44 beat the DM goalie nailing a corner of the goal.

Through the 3rd period, TALAN SMITH won 11 of 11 faceoffs and got many of the GBs.
END OF Q3 BEARS 8 STAGS 4
With such a goal differential, it has been Landon’s practice to work in some players who might benefit from from some PT. The Stags, true to its athletic tradition, did not let up and scored at 10:31, 6:31 and 5:09. Some of the fresh Bear jerseys were replaced in time to preserve the win.
