Landon Lacrosse 8 St. Paul’s 11

The first game of a season, especially before the league schedule begins, is an important learning opportunity. Facing a less-than-challenging opponent may add to the players’ confidence, but little is learned. Instead, the 2022 Bears started off against a traditionally tough(25 MIAA, MSA or State Championships) team, St. Paul’s of Brooklandville, MD. They had a scrimmage earlier and then beat Gonzaga before this bout with the Bears. Coaches McGettigan and Bordley now have through notes about what their team needs to improve.

The visitors got off to a good start. Zak Oehlerking defeated the SPS pole on an inside roll dodge to score @10:09. The second name in the 2022 scorebook is Cameron Brown who ripped one from midfield @7:24. The Crusaders responded with 2 goals in the last 6 minutes to tie up the score.

END OF 1ST QUARTER BEARS 2 CRUSADERS 2

The pattern of Landon scoring twice continued in this period. Again, Zak was able to use his strength and stick work to earn the #3 goal for his team @9:32. Another pointed purpose for the early Spring games is to assess the EMO. What works/doesn’t against your teammates in practice, may not be as effective in a real game. Landon earned an advantage due to an SPS transgression and Kevin Miller, assisted by Cam, beat the Crusaders’ net minder @ 6:01.

The renvoi of Q1 occurred at 2:16 and then 0:28.4 when the home team scored. Unfortunately, the hosts added another goal; this at 0:16.1

HALFTIME CRUSADERS 5 BEARS 4

These 15 minutes saw the two teams exchange goals. First, Will Single tied the score with a nice shot @10:24. Less than a minute later, SPS regained its one goal advantage. Anthony Savoy @ 1:14 tied it up again. With only 65 seconds left, another Crusader scored

END OF 3RD Q CRUSADERS 7 BEARS 6

The home team blew it open early in Q4 with 4 quick goals. An EMO score, one or two silly visitor mistakes and a nice shot made it 11 to 6. Clearly the Landon coaches notebooks (and later film) identified some teachable moments.

Anthony Panetti, using his speed and a wicked shot, scored @ 3:06. Zak registered his first 2022 hat trick with a goal @2:24.

FINAL SCORE CRUSADERS 11 BEARS 8

The SEVERN ADMIRALS, with a 1-0 record (win over StA), come to Bordley Stadium on 3/8 4pm; their roster includes 8 likely recruits (80+ scores per IL).
