Landon Lacrosse 8 Episcopal Academy 3

For the second game in a row, the Bears played a team from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania (Episcopal), a school that has very old roots (1785) and a religious mascot (the Churchmen). The Bears took their second charter bus ride, but this one had good speed plus amenities.

With that background, Landon earned its 4th victory of the 2019 season. The D, the O, the clear/ride and the EMO/EMD (****), ALL, played well. In particular, the Class of 2019 led the way in getting the details done right.

The visitors registered the first point @11:12. It started with a pass from Garrett Kurtz to Graham Hertzberg whose bounce shot completely fooled the EA goalie.

The Churchmen replied with consecutive Midfielder sweeps at 10:24 and then 9:01.

During this segment of the initial period, the Landon extra man defense was tested with a two player deficit, but did not allow a goal. The poles and SSDMs knocked down a number of passes and caused a few turnovers.

With 2:15 remaining, the Bears scored on a sweet pass from Gavin Seasholes to Garrett buried the ball with a forehand shot.

END OF 1ST PERIOD BEARS 2 CHURCHMEN 2

The second stanza was all Landon’s – they limited EA to 3 shots (not SOGs, shots), they broke 2 of the opponents’ clears and executed the offense as the coaches had described.

First goal was a Joey Graham classic shot from GLE left that ripped the nets @6:53. In a tightly, but fairly called game, the Bears were given an EMO chance and 2022 A Zak Oehlerking made a spectacular dodge from behind for the team’s #4 goal @3:06.

The last goal before half, @0:20.6, by Garrett a back hand shot (good foreshadowing?).

HALFTIME BEARS 5 CHURCHMEN 2

Again early in the next quarter, Graham returned the favor on the 1st goal by assisting on a tally by Garrett @11:21.

EA responded with its 3rd and last goal of the game at 9:26.

Joey G beat the Churchman G late in the 3rd period.

END OF 3RD PERIOD BEARS 7 CHURCHMEN 3

The last 12 minute segment saw the home team take more shots than they had during the previous 36. The Bear D by excellent slides, good positioning and superb stick work caused the trajectories to fly from the target. Mitch Laughlin made a key save in this period and with minutes left on the clock, Freshman Hunter Taylor made his debut and stopped several stops.

Zak added his second goal @8:47.
