Landon Lacrosse 6 St. Paul’s 9
The Bears’ preseason included two highly rated opponents and now Coach Healy’s squad faces a string of teams on the Under Armour top-ranked squads. Today the competition was an MIAA powerhouse, the Crusaders of St. Paul’s. The home team clears, EMO, EMD and other sophisticated aspects of their game were tested. Landon lost periods 1 through 3 but showed some resilience in the 4th. Crusaders 9 Bears 3
The visitors with offensive Div. I talent at its top 3 As and 3 Ms scored first at 9:21 and again at 6:53. Landon Sells earned Landon’s 1st goal @ 3:04 on an EMO opportunity (sure there was an A, but I missed it). The Crusaders responded with their 3rd tally at 2:15. On a nice feed from Oscar Smink to Graham Hertzberg for a goal @0:42.
END OF 1ST Q CRUSADERS 3 BEARS 2
This next 12 minutes started off as all SPS with goals at 10:20 and 6:02 (on a broken clear).
Graham got his 2ndgoal from a helper by Evan Schwartz @1:30.
HALFTIME CRUSADERS 5 BEARS 3
The 3rd period did not go well for the Bears. The visitors posted scores at 9:49, 6:45 and 3:06. The home score was nil.
THIRD PERIOD CRUSADERS 8 BEARS 3
These are the times that try Bears’ souls, not to be a Paine. And they did respond. Fed by Zak Oehlerking, Graham registered his troika @11:10.
The Crusaders reestablished a five goal lead at 8:13 on an EMO play
Then on a fast break led by Ryan Giles who tossed the ball to his hockey linemate, Joey Graham whose shot beat the SPS goalie @ 6:34. The Bears were awarded an EMO and converted @5:19 with a Zak to Landon Sells tally.
That ended the Bears’ rally. The challenge continues with St. John’s CHS, St. Mary’s, Gonzaga and Bullis. GO BEARS!!!
