The Bears traveled to Severna Park to face the Admirals of the Severn School. The day was at least Gale 6 winds, which may have not affected the nautical home team, but likely impacted the young Bear roster (only 8 of 40+ are seniors). This was not the home team’s first match. Please note that the scorers’ table was ground level and the opaque objects known as players and coaches blocked the view of 75% of the play, thus recording of GBs, Shots, CTs, etc was largely impossible and even if there was a momentary sightline, the winds were not favorable to marking the scoresheet.
The Brown-jerseys scored first–@ 9:21 on a pass from Anthony Panetta to Troy Ulissney. The Admirals clears were frequently frustrated by their opponents’ effective rides. Late in the 1st quarter the home team scored twice at 3:23 and then @ 2:40. Undeterred by this momentary momentum, Landon’s Will Cohen, havingcaused a Severn turnover, used his speed to clear the ball into the O zone, where the Dartmouth-bound senior beat the SS goalie @ 2:21 equalizing the score at 2-2.
With only 0:00.2 on the clock, the Admirals regained a one-point lead.
Arthur Smink protected his nets during this 15 minute segment and stopped 3 shots.1
1 Given the lack of a visual line of sight, all save numbers are GUESSES at best,
Quarter 2 saw the Bears rebound. Goals: Sean Murray @ 9:48 plus the visitors’ 4th tally @ 9:30 after another defensive conversion, LSM Owens Davis assisted on Christian Daymude’s score for a 5-4 lead. TheAdmirals replied with late period goals at 0:45 and 0:40.
Arthur Smink protected his nets during this 15 minute segment and stopped 3 Admiral attempts to crease his nets
After halftime, both Ds were more effective. The Home boys made it 6-4 at 4:18.
For the 3rd Q, Zach Abramson protected the 6’x 6’ and stopped 5 shots.
Scoring picked up during the final stanza. Bears scored @10:32 on a pass from Sean Murray to Chase Robertson to narrow the difference to –1 between the Ursine team and the naval crew. Once again, the 4 Stars retaliated with blows at 9:06 and then 4:01. Never giving up the Den, Anthony Panetta beat the Severn goalie @0:27.
Zach stifled 5 blasts from the shipmen.
FINAL SCORE BEARS 6 ADMIRALS 9
