LANDON LACROSSE 6 GEORGETOWN PREP 5
Coach Bordley’s 43 years as the Bear Lacrosse coach has defined success on an annual basis with a number of points of merit. The rivalry with Georgetown Prep is one of those measure. Year after year , it has been a measure of a good year. Even if either team is not winning as much as expected, Landon beating Prep or GP beating the Bears equaled a good season. The home announcer acknowledged this was a significant terminus of a long positive, even exemplary relationship with Coach Bordley.
Coach Bordley’s trip to Rockville Prep was victorious. All of his Bears worked hard to seal this deal.
Lacrosse does not adhere to the mathematical transitive principle. GP beat SJCHS; Landon lost. Landon beat SMS; the Hoyas lost. The Bears beat Cardinal Gibbons; Prep lost. And the StA games were a GP win and a Landon loss. The team located on Rockville Pike has a talented roster with commitments to Bucknell, Dartmouth (2), Georgetown, Navy, North Caroline, Notre Dame, Richmond and Villanueva. IMPRESSIVE!!
The home team scored 1st with an assisted score at 9:33. Joey Epstein, in the beginning of an epic display, beat the GP goalie @3:24 with an 8-10-yard blast from the wing.
END OF 1ST Q BEARS 1 LITTLE HOYAS 1
John Geppert showed his leadership by nailing a shot on the run @9:52. The other Joey, of the Graham breed, inverted and scored on a power dodge from behind goal @4:06. GP replied with their 2nd goal at 0:52.3

The next quarter reflected the intense competition between the two schools. Forced turnovers and scrums for GBs marked the 12:00. Landon’s long poles were able to cause a number of turnovers led by Drew Wellington’s 4 over the 14 minutes. The Bears, throughout the game ran afoul of the referees by earning 9 penalties as opposed to the home team’s 4.
Joey E mixmastered his defender and scored from GLE @8:14. The ball hit the turf in the GP O zone and a Hoya came up with the ball a mere 5 yards from the L goal. His slapshot hit the back of the nets at 6:53
END OF 3RD QUARTER BEARS 4 LITTLE HOYAS 3
GP equalized the score at 11:28 on an assisted EMO goal.
Joey E got his hands free from the wing to give the Bears the advantage @10:28.
5-5 shined from the GP scoreboard at 6:12 after an amazing shot by a Hoya. Possessions switched sides with excellent play both teams.
On the run, with no angle and with the GP goalie showing what appeared to be a 3” x 3” hole over his shoulder, Joey E nailed it @ 2:19.
The remaining 139 seconds were exciting and terrifying. A crucial moment occurred at 1:20 when one of the Hoyas had a golden opportunity to bury the ball in the back of the Landon nets. Fortunately for the visitors, Mitch Laughlin was not fooled, made the save and started the clear to his team’s O zone.
The Brown jerseys (refs referred to them as red) retained possession by showing exceptional speed and passing under duress. Much to the incredulity of the GP coaches, the Black and White stripes called the Little Hoyas for a foul and a loose ball push.
