Landon Lacrosse 13 The Heights 9

The Bears’ first game took them to a school aptly named The Heights, after 15 years as an independent, is moving on up to the WCAC. Inside Lacrosse lists three Heights players as recruits or potential recruits. The Knights’ roster was probably smaller than the 39 Bears who played (42% of Landon’s players were sophomore or freshman). The scorekeeper was a little rusty; so, saves, clears, GBs and other relevant statistics may be amiss.  

The first period, as oft happens, saw the competitors size up the other team. Bears scored and then the home team responded.

Landon tallied the 1^st goal of 2024 on an assist by TROY ULISNEY to a GOAL by CHASE ROBERTSON @ 11:01. The home team matched that at 7:24. DEVIN STEWART took back the lead @6:47. Knights got to 2 at 5;02. CHASE added to his total with an UNASSISTED GOAL @3:28. Déjà vu again, home team responded at 2:20. To end the first Q, MACK COHEN fed KEVIN MILLER @1:54 to restore the Bear Lead.

During the intermission Coach McGettigan and his able assistants made all the right adjustments for Landon made 5 goals whilst The Heights failed to score

The last quarter saw a profusion of younger Bears test sent by Coach McGettigan to their mettle against the Knights. This is a practice that Coach Bordley frequently followed—eschewing running up the score for getting real game time experience for these future Bears. These younger Landon players showed aggression, but were flagged for a number of penalties resulting in 3 EMD goals and one even strength goal. Landon scored early @9:31 on a fastbreak KEVIN MILLER to ANTHONY.

On Friday Landon travels to Brooklandville, MD to face the Crusaders of St. Paul’s with 8 Div I and 4 Div III recruits on Friday.
