Landon Lacrosse 13 Paul VI 7
The Bears team beat a talented (9 Div. I recruits according to laxpower.com) WCAC for, Paul VI, 13-7 ( read Ty Zanders praise of PVI in its 1st game.) . The emphasis is on the word “TEAM”; the boys move the ball; there were no selfish shots; the D smothered the opponents; the Goalie made his normal spectacular saves; they play strong, but under control. Each phase of the squad (Attack, Middies, Defense, Goalie; Seniors, Juniors, Sophomores and juniors; Coaches with the players; and sideline support from the parents/grandparents/fans) is seamlessly integrated. That combination worked well today against the Panthers.
The Bears’ skills make the experience of being a spectator ENJOYABLE.
The home team scoring was quick to start with an unassisted goal by Luke Kurtz @ 10:56. Controlling possession gave Landon opportunities, most of which were converted:
Joey Epstein to Will Powell @ 7:10
Griffin Brown to Rob Adkins @ 5:38
Joey to Ryan Pride @ 4:52, and
Nate Buller to Colton Rupp @ 0:43.4, an extra man goal
END OF FIRST PERIOD – BEARS 5 PANTHERS 1
An example of the coordination between the coaches and the boys, the next goal was initiated by a smart substitution allowing Colton to find a Griffin sprinting in undefended and the middie scored with a wicked shot @ 9:48. The Panthers responded with their second goal registered at 9:02.
Another great clear play gave Ryan time and space to shoot and he nailed it @ 6:44. The 8th Bear goal was a perfect example of the team’s incredible vision as Nate located Griffin across crease @ 4:55.
HALFTIME– BEARS 8 PANTHERS 3
To show his shooting skill, Colton beat the Panther goalie from a very acute angle @9:33. The visitors plunked their fourth goal at 6:50, but to show the diversity of his attacks, Colton put a bounce shot by the PVI goalie. The Bears repeated their visionary plays with Rob feeding Nate @ 3:40.
Coach Bordley worked a number of his younger players onto the field as early as the 2nd period, by the end of this twelve minute segment, the field had a strong representation from 2017 and 2018. Their metal was tested and they showed promise. END OF 3RD PERIOD – BEARS 11 PANTHERS 4
Griffin started with an early goal @ 10:42. Landon deposited an EMO goal with a Rob to Joey conversion @ 10:29.
The PVI starters got some late scored at 7:46, at 1:55 and at 0:47.5. That last tally may have been the only EMD goal surrendered by Landon this season.Paul Kern got some time in the nets and did well.
