On a beautiful spring Saturday, the Bears traveled 62 miles to Hagerstown to face the Saints. The school was founded in 1842 and played many years ago (i.e. whilst I was a student inside the White Rocks) in the IAC and now the MILL A. Most lax heads would immediately recognize their head coach, John Tucker (JHU national championship, US international teams [3 gold medals and two captains; USILA club team national champions NLL player and coach (as recently as 2015); enshrined in both the NLL and US Lacrosse Halls of Fame.
The visitors were more battle-tested and deeper (as best as could be determined almost all of the roster played and as early as Q2, the 1st string’s playing time was limited.
The sharpness that the Bears developed in their FL games was too much for the Saints. Landon beat the Saints’ Goalie for 12 consecutive scores:
Period Time Goal by Assist by notes
1 13:18 Jonas Hawkins Sean Murray
7:26 Riley Lugar
6:00 Joe Papalia EMO, OFF REBOUND
5:51 Sean Talan Smith Talan won F/O, GB and A
4:53 Jonas Joe
3:51 Caden Southworth Makana Neverosky
2:14 Joe
2 11:16 Sean Aedan Cassidy
9:03 Grayson Paik
3 8:29 Joe (hat trick and 4th P on an A)
7:38 Mack Dockx Jonas
4:07 Sean Steis
Over 2 quarters Stephen Riso stopped all 4 SOGs. Talan was 4 for 5 at the X and Hayden Goozh was 3/3. The Bears’ O put 17 SOGs. The clearing was most successful with and preventing the ball movement.
The much of the clock for last period was “running” unlike the normal stop time.
In all positions many players earned Play Time. Specialists Eli Green stopped 4 shots and Kedren Smith was 2/3 at X and Luke Fennell’s battles drew much enthusiasm from his teammates.
The Saints scored 5 goals in the last 2 periods.
FINAL SCORE BEARS 12 SAINTS 5
