LANDON LACROSSE 11 GONZAGA 10 OVERTIME!!!

THESE BEARS FIGHT

Gonzaga is a very talented team with 10 Div. I recruits and 5 Div. III commits (8 of them 2024). The Purple Eagles (10-4) lost 4 early games and the April 24 match against Landon was an opportunity for redemption.

The raucous home crowd whooped it up big in the first 12 minutes—starting with an own goal after 0:13 expired, then another score a minute later and a 3rd consecutive notch at 8:32. Redemption was going well.  Landon’s MAKANA NEVEROSKY beat the theretofore unbeatable home goalie @ 7:54. The White Jerseys took a time-out at 1:20 and added to their total at 0:55.

ZACH ABRAMSON saw 9 shots and stopped 1. The Bears were able to get off 4 shots. Landon XMEN—TALAN SMITH 2/3; HAYDEN GOOZH ½

END OF 1ST Q: BEARS 1 PURPLE EAGLES 5

For the next 36 minutes, Landon clawed back from this deficit. The second period, again, did not start well. The Purple team notched their 6th score at 11:18, #7 at 10:08, The Brown team responded: @8:12 KEVIN MILLER fed ANTHONY PANETTI = GOAL; then CHASE ROBERTSON demonstrated his Ute fast ball @ 4:45 an EMO goal.

Momentum shift when Gonzaga scored at 0:51? NO—DAVIS OWEN the LSM with attackman skills brought the Eagles back to earth with his goal @ 0:05

ZACH made 1 save on 15 shots. Landon shots 13; XMEN TALAN 5/0; HAYDEN 0/1

Q2 only scores Bears 3 purple Eagles 3

HALFTIME SCORE: BEARS 4 EAGLES 8

Coach McGettigan and his band of Bear Coaches made adjustments during the break. The home team pushed to +5 on a goal at 11:55 and their fans exploded (in relief? but it was premature). The Bear O attacked—5th goal was a nice interchange between two Middies—a pass from CADEN SOUTHWITH to CHASE GOAL @9:38. Then ANTHONY used his faster-than-a-Bison Speed to free his hands and shot @6:29 Bear Goal #6. Home team got their last goal of the game at 5:35, only to see the Bear #10 to #11 @2:58 for the visitors’ 7th goal.

ZACH saw 5 shots in 24:01 to 36:00 and stopped 3. The Brown jerseys made 9 shots over this segment; XMEN TALAN 3/2; HAYDEN 3/2

END OF PERIOD 3: BEARS 7 PURPLE EAGLES 10

Significant change over the last 12:43- ZACH stopped all of the opponents SOGs (5 total). Landon’s double digit seniors took control—CHASE a/k/a #11 brought the margin to -2 with his goal @8:36; ANTHONY a/k/a #22 brought his Bears within a goal @7:56; then @ 5:10 #11 registered his 5th goal to tie the score. Time outs by both coaches were to no avail; so off to Over Time the teams moved.

ZACH’s Q4 was marked by 5 SAVES ON 5 SOGs; his brothers fired 10 shots and the FOGOs were a collective 1 of 2.

END OF REGULATION TIMEBEARS 10 PURPLE EAGLES 10

What’s the key to O/T—WINNING THE FACEOFF—and HAYDEN beat his opponent clearly at X. The Bear O moved the ball sharply and TROY ULISNEY, as an inverted middie, fed KEVIN MILLER for the GWG with only 0:43 expired.

OVERTIME BEARS [13-2] 11– PURPLE EAGLES [now 10-5] 10

Over the 30+ years of watching Landon lacrosse (13 consecutive years) this was THE MOST EXCITING GAME that I had the privilege of witnessing.

StA away 4/26 away at 4:30.
