Landon Lacrosse 10 Severna Park 8

The Falcons own six straight Maryland Class 3A championships and their roster includes commits to a number of strong programs. Against public schools, they are undefeated in 2023. A loss to Severn and now to the Bears are their only blemishes. They, too, play the National Federation rules, but at a faster pace than Madison.

The home team scored quickly off a miscue during a Bears’ clear at 10:22. Nico Schermer responded with a goal @9:52; his goal started when the senior defenseman had a take-away, scooped up the GB and made his way through the Falcons defensive phalanx.

Period #2 started well when Chase Robertson broke down a SP clear, gathered the ball and scored @11:18. The Bears’ O produced a consecutive tally when SSDM Nathan Furgeson possessed the ball in his O zone and passed it to Christian Daymude who beat the Towson bound SP goalie [18 saves on the day] @ 10:35. The Falcons evened up the score with consecutive goals at 10:05 and 8:02.

To close out the half, Anthony Panetti swept across the opposing defenders and blasted a shot @3:51 as he freed his hand. The Bears 5th goal saw Caden Southworth set up Sean Murray’s shot @1:26.

On return from halftime, Quinn Coughlan dodged from X and shot as he passed GLE @10:24. Anthony P initiated the 7th mark on the Bears’ scoring ledger with a pass to Quinn @ 8:59.

The SP scoreboard moved from 3 to 4, when a rebound ended up in the crosse of a Falcon, who had no angle, but a behind-the-back shot beat Zach Abramson [10 saves for the game]at 7:37. Anthony P earned three marks on the scoreboard with a CT, a GB and a goal @6:43. Soon thereafter, #22 of the Exit 16 cadre wrote another line in the  Brine lined page by passing the ball to Steele Maddux @6:42.

Severna Park was the second consecutive public school, and both used the Atlanta Falcons’ logo. They had three quick goals (at 4:12, 1:55 and 0:10.1) making it 9-7 in favor of the visitors.

Minutes 36:01 to 48:00 were heavily defensive–turnovers caused and those occasioned by bad passes. The Bears +2 margin was reduced to +1 at 6:13, but the 2 point advantage was restored @4:25 with another Anthony P assist to Steele goal @4:25. Without a shot clock and with Coach McGettigan timely timeouts, the visitors withheld the ball from the home team.
