Landon Lacrosse 10 Bullis 11 in O/T
“Never give in. Never give in. Never, never, never, never—in nothing, great or small, large or petty—never give in, except to convictions of honour and good sense. Never yield to force. Never yield to the apparently overwhelming might of the enemy.”
Winston Churchill must have watched the Bears last several IAC games; for in each contest, Landon has had to fight back after falling behind by as many as eight goals. The team won one in regulation time and one in overtime but lost three.
The IAC semifinal was just such a match-up. The visitors were tied with the home team at the end of the 1st Q; fell behind by a score of 2-6 at half. In the 3rdQ, the Bears surrendered another Bullis goal, but then reduced the margin by 2 (4-9). With only 12 minutes to play, led by the seniors, they tied the game—first at 9-9 @5:00 and then at 10-10 @ 2:20. Mitch Laughlin made a spectacular save to earn an O/T for his brothers.
After the teams began play the added time, Mitch again stopped a point blank shot. Unfortunately, that effort was negated by a perfect question mark dodge with the shot coming from over the Bulldog dodger’s inside shoulder. At 2:51 the season ended for the Bears

The Landon lacrosse team has been the subject of BearSportsNews for 10 years. That span includes some incredibly talented teams, undefeated records and high win/loss tallies. The 2019 roster stands apart from others is the CHARACTER exhibited by the 17 seniors. Unlike the predecessors, these boys did not move forward with a lot of field experience. That is attributed to the fact that their two preceding classes totaled 42 seniors. The chance to gain confidence in their sophomore and junior years was limited by that bow wave of talent in ’18 and ’17.
That said these Bears led with the same fervor and dedication of their predecessors. To provide such leadership without the time of field before this year is a TREMENDOUS TESTAMENT to the Class of 2019.
Consequently the last Khari Baten “That’s a Bear” Award goes to all of the seniors.
