Six years ago Landon beat Georgetown Prep by two points. Cyrus House was in his first year with the Varsity program, but as manager. Last night, Cyrus, in his first full season as a player, provided some of the biggest shots.

In the 1st Quarter, with Bears down 7 early, Cyrus came off the bench to hit three jumpers. After the 1st Quarter the Bears had cut the Hoyas lead to 15-13, but to start the 2nd Quarter the Hoyas jumped out quickly and led by as many as 12. The Bears struggled to contain 6’8’’ Michael Boland as the Hoyas scored 24 points the 2nd the Bears. After the Hoyas kept Joe MacDonald scoreless in the first, he helped keep the Bears in the game with 13 of the team’s 17 points in the 2nd Period. With a MacDonald three pointer to end the quarter, the Bears trailed 39-30.

In the 3rd Quarter the Hoyas continued to try to put away the Bears, but once again Cyrus House came off the bench to score 5 more points in the 3rd. Addison Sarter also contributed the many of his 15 his points in the 3rd. The Bears kept the Hoyas lead within single digits the entire Quarter. As the 4th Quarter neared it was evident that foul trouble was beginning the haunt both teams. Prep’s guards, J.T. Strickland and Alex Fabian-Scotch were nearing 5th foul territory and so were Bears’ Joe MacDonald Tumi Onaghise.

The 4th Quarter was a different game. The bears came into the period down by 7 and after a quick score by Strickland the deficit was back to the halftime margin of 9. The Bears ensued to go a 15-0 run that featured scores by Harry Laird, Deion Wellington, Addison Sarter, and Joe MacDonald going 8 for 8 from the foul line. The Hoyas had to sit both their guards because of foul trouble and they struggled to find semblance in their offence. The game was iced at the strip as the Bears made 27-36 FT’s. In their past few games Landon had struggled to be above 50% at the line.

The Bears won 66-57, by scoring 24 points in the 4th and holding Prep to only 8 points. The Bears found a way to improve after scoring only 8 points in Tuesday’s 4th Quarter against Episcopal.

The Bears even up their IAC record to 1-1 and are 9-5 overall. They will play at Bullis, who lost at home to Episcopal on Friday Night, Tuesday night.
