LANDON HOCKEY 9 SAINT STEPHEN/SAINT AGNES 2

The SSSA varsity is undefeated in MAPHL A games with an average of 8+ goals per game. The Bears are undefeated in MAPHL and the 1/6 game was the Bears’ 1st IAC match.

Ten 2023 skaters on Coach Parker’s squad were recognized in this early Senior Night. Plaudits were given to the boys’ parents were honored, too, citing, among other things, the many hours driving their sons to practices and games often for 2 teams.

The Bears evidenced their considerable advantage in competitive games. The Saints were athletic but could not keep up with the more sophisticated play of their opponents. The best evidence of this differential was that the home skater put more than 50 SOGs while the team from Alexandria could only test the Bear goalie, Jackie LiCalsi, with 9 SOGs.

The seniors played much of the first period and as often happens with emotional Senior Nights, their focus was less than normal.

The home team drew a penalty and while short-handed, Reid Pehrkon scored on an assist from Alex Macmillan@ 7:59. An equalizing tally was recorded at 2:14

END OF 1ST PERIOD BEARS 1 SAINTS 1

This segment started differently when OWEN MOORE, a freshman, beat the poor SSSA netminder @12:46. Soon thereafter, the Saints had to send a player to the “sin bin” and @ 11:34 a pretty PP goal was started by ARTHUR SMINK’s pass to GRAHAM HABERL who connected with REID PEHRKON for the home team’s 3rd GOAL. The Saints responded with their 2nd goal at 8:00. Another plus 1 advantage due to a Saints penalty, added the scoreboard as REID fed GRAHAM @ 7:22. The middle stanza’s last line in the scorebook was another set-up by REID who connected with CHRISTIAN DAYMUDE @4:13.

END OF 2ND PERIOD BEARS 5 SAINTS 2

No penalties during the last 15:00. The home team beat the SSSA goalie 4 more times:

TIME GOAL BY ASSIST 1

@ 13:32 REID

@12:30 ARTHUR SMINK REID

@9:06QUIN FARLAND ALEX

At this point, the referees told the timekeeper to use a running clock. The younger Bear skaters benefitted from this playing time. SSSA avoided further bombardment of their netminder by icing the puck every time that they gained possession
