The eleven members of the Class of 2022 were honored before this last regular season home game. The standard opening line has been “thanks to these Bears and parents for four years of contributing to Landon hockey.” Though these boys were denied the privilege and pleasure of the standard career through COVID, they gave all that they had. Not surprisingly, they received a well-deserved recognition. The photographers took a new and so appropriate a great picture of the players and their parents.
Having been the Bears unofficial scribe for 10+years, a few personal, hardly expert, observations:
The seniors were totally unselfish; even though a player may have had a shot, there never was a hesitant to pass to a teammate who had a better look.
The class of 2022 must have had exceptional geometry grades (or as one skeptic pointed out, “they have played a lot of pool) because their indirect passes off the boards connected so well, so often. In a dynamic geometry sense, they made passes that anticipated the future position of their brothers.
Their tenacity, particularly in backchecking, created a lot of O opportunities and goals.
They put a lot of shots on goalie as opposed to SOGs (86 SOGs in the last two games and only 12 goals).
Leo Quattrone is the best Bear netminder in my recollection.
The Captain Michael Hardie, Assistants Ethan Goldman and Zach Lammers plus all the seniors provided real leadership. On more than one occasions, the ’22 Bears took the time to counsel their younger brothers what pregame behavior should be.
The purple-sweatered Gaels had no downside coming into this game; their MAPHL record did not make them a play-off contender. They skated on the ice with energy and drive. While the home team registered the all important 1st goal when Michael took a pass from Quinn Farland to beat the MSJ goalie @ 8:35 (this entry on the scorecard presaged more to come). The Gaels got their initial tally at 2:31.
Leo stopped 6 shots during this 15 minutes while the Bears had 18 SOGs.
BEARS1 GAELS 1

Hockey is a sport known for its unique jargon, probably its most recognized phrase is “PUT THE BISCUIT IN THE BASKET.” This period followed that rink aphorism with the Bears beating the MSJ goalie for the ’21-’22 Landon most-goals-in-A-period record—5 goals on 15 SOGs in 15 minutes.
The rampage began @9:36 registered as a Bryce Sidhu goal with a Colin Flood assist. Michael and Quinn were entered again on the scoresheet with their 2nd G and 2nd A respectively @9:07.
MSJ’s last score was at 7:13.
Then, Reid “the speed” Pehrkon flew into his O zone and laid a sweet pass to Ishaan Sethi for Landon’s 4th goal @ 6:08. The home team’s strong wind (a/k/a gale)toward the MSJ goal continued:
Period Goal# time scorer assists
2 5 3:58 Michael Quinn, Arthur Smink
HAT TRICK FOR 9
3RD ASSIST FOR 12
2 6 2:29 Ishaan Quinn his 4th
Leo stopped 4 shots
END OF 2ND PERIOD BEARS 6 GAELS 2
3 7 10:29 Kevin Fou
3 8 5:57 Owen Calderone Bryce
Seeing a negative scoreboard, the Gaels peppered Leo with 10 SOGs all stopped. The home team did not relent testing the MSG netminder 11 times and 2 were biscuits in the basket.
FINAL SCORE BEARS 8 GAELS 2
