The Patriots were MSHL finalists last year and the roster has 8 seniors plus many U16/U18, AAs and AAA players. They had played five games (3 wins scoring 6 goals; losses to SJCHS and Winston Churchill).
This year’s Bears have 6 seniors, 10 members of the class of 2021, 7 skaters who will graduate in 2022 and a Freshman. This was their first game of this season.
The 1st period ended in a 0-0 tie in spite of Landon’s SOG advantage of 18-2. They controlled the puck for most of the 15 minutes. The Patriots iced the puck every time they had possession. The Bears’ forecheck was furious, but the Wootton goalie played like he was Henrik Lundqvist, well the old #30. The Patriots’ sweater looks like the blue shirts and their netminder stopped everything like the Swede.
Penalties were home team 21 minutes; away team 4 over the opening segment.
END OF PERIOD 1- BEARS 0 PATRIOTS 0
For some reason, the Bears found the back of the net in this period. At 5:00 expired, Coby Shrensky connected with Will Lawrence for the 1st goal of 2019-2020. Bears 1 Patriots 0
The next Landon tally @ 14:52 had two helpers—Jake Cohen and Ryan Giles. Joey Graham buried the black rubber disk for Goal 2.
The MoCo high school earned a PP goal at 11:32
Landon SOGs 18 for 36 two periods, SAVES 2 for 4 total
END OF PERIOD 2– BEARS 2 PATRIOTS 1
Minutes 24:01 to 36:00, the home team scored three goals in succession:
@0:48 Will got another score with an assist to Ryan
@1:24 Matthew Brille beat the Wootton goalie for the home team’s 4th goal with a nice assist to Jacob Hookman-Vassa
@ 2:12 Tommy Kenary, from a nice breakout pass from Jordan Dinesman, for another Bear goal. Tommy’s offensive football talents (#62 ran the ball for 11 yards against StA) transferred to the ice; he hit the upper left hand corner.
As noted above, Coach Erickson has 6 players who are playing Varsity for the 1st time and the roster has 8 underclassmen. Experience needs to be developed early in the season. Every Bear had substantial ice time and they all played well.
The Patriots got their last goal at 7:12
Landon SOGs 13 for 49 game total, SAVES 4 for 8 game total
FINAL SCORE LANDON 5 WOOTTON 2
NEXT GAME HOME 11/26 @ 4:15 P.M. vs. Salesianum School, Wilmington, DE recent record v. Bears Landon 2 wins Salesianum 1; plays in the Inter-County Scholastic Hockey League which shows the Sallies as 0-2-1.
