Landon Hockey 5 StA 0

The Bears and the Bulldogs have been competitive on the ice for years. As the score indicates, this was not a traditional match. The Bears were far more likely

  • to see a teammate down ice for a great pass;

  • to anticipate where the puck was going and skate there first;

  • to pinch in at the point when it was warranted, but back skate when that made sense; and

  • to have a goalie well protected while expecting him to make the needed stop.

All of those factors resulted in the 5-0 win and the home team outshooting the visitors 35 to 10.

The Bulldogs’ goalie blanked the Bears for the 1st two periods in the January 9 game and was solid throughout in a 0-2 loss to the visitors at Ft. DuPont. In the 2nd game, Alex Norwinski changed that pattern with a breakaway goal scoring @ 10:47. The rest of the period involved a lot of activity, but very few scoring chances for StA. Jack Concannon stopped all 6 shots from the visitors and the home team had 8 SoGs.

END OF 1ST PERIOD BEARS 1 BULLDOGS 0

The 2nd period was punctuated with a textbook triangular passes goal—Trevor Wolf to Drennan Greene to Jones “Indiana” Lindner (the birthday boy) who scored @ 2:25 of the period.

Jack saved three more StA shots while the Bears’ projectiles at the Bulldog goalie blocked 16 spheres aimed at him.

END OF 2nd PERIOD BEARS 2 BULLDOGS 0

By the last 15 minutes, the home team’s hard play for the initial two periods paid off. At 12:38 the combination of Michael Soraci and Patrick Giles moved the puck tic-tac-toe and the toe was Tommy Crittenberger. Exactly 60 seconds later, Jones found Walker Hague who scored @ 11:38. As the clock went under a minute, Michael scored @ 0:13.4 on a nice goal for his second point.

Jack kept warm with 4 saves and the Bears put 10 shots on the StA net. He held the Bulldogs scoreless for 6 consecutive periods.

Look for posts written by the very talented reporters recruited to cover the 4 or 5 remaining regular season and the IAC/MAPHL (hopefully many) games. Thanks to my helpers.
