Coincidentally the Potomac Bulldogs beat the Rockville Bulldogs at the Bears’ Den tonight in the previous game
The Bears and their longtime rival, StA, met in a contest to determine the 2nd team for the IAC post season tournament. The visitors were motivated to reverse the prior 6-4 outcome at Ft. DuPont. The excitement was extreme- Bears ahead, Bulldogs take 2nd period lead, the home team ties it up, sending it into sudden death/victory. At 1:34 of the overtime, Reid Pehrkon broke into the StA O zone and beat the Bulldog netminder for a second time. Heart rates even among the hearty were at the upper limits throughout the swings in lead, the tying goal and
N.B’, head trainer Mike McCormack recently reassured the Landon Community “never fear and an AED is near.”

The first fifteen minutes followed the standard script of each roster testing their opposing numbers. Time of possession and SOGs favored the White Sweaters (L 12 SOGs, StA5—starting Bear Goalie Jack LiCalsistopped all sent his way). Landon scored @2:57 on assists from Caden Blazer and Alex MacMillan with Tommy Trowernbeating the StA protector of the nets.
A late 5 minute penalty against the home team tested their D, but the short-handed squad outshot their opponents during their 6 on 5 advantage.

A penalty in period 2 lead to StA’s first goal at 8:05. They then garnered the next goal at 5:38, even strength. Momentum swing? But then Reid @5:16 deposited the puck behind the Blue-sweated goalie—Assist to Graham Haberl.Equilibrium until the DC team scored at 4:15

The last stanza saw an early Bear goal @12:46 on an Alex McMillanheavy shot with Apples to Sebby Kenary and Watts Colclough. The remainder of the time was consumed by up and back rushes by both teams. Philip Searsstopped all 4 StA shots while his teammates fired 9 at the other net.
Bears 3 Bulldogs 3
The possibility that a lucky shot or a D man tripping on a back check could end the Bears’ quest made this segment nerve racking. UNTIL @ 1:34 Reid BROKE INTO THE BULLDOGS D ZONE off of passes from Alex and Arthur Smink. Crossing the blue line unencumbered by opponents, the Sophomore forward’s shot beat the goalie.
