The Cardinals of Baltimore sport a 1-0-2 record putting them in MAPHL AA in 7th place. Upon closer examination shows that CH beat SJCHS 1-3 and ties with the Purple Eagles and the Bulldogs of Potomac. Outside of MAPHL, the Baltimoreans are 5-4-0. They arrived at the Bears’ Den with an ambition to add to their MAPHL wins. Hopes were dashed by Coach Parker’s flying, disciplined skaters. One reason why the Bears prevailed may have been the depth of the home team’s roster.
Early in period 1(11:07), the Cards converted a nice tic-tac-toe goal. A shift or two later, the visitors could have created strong momentum, when they had a great opportunity, it was stopped when Phil Sears flashed the leather and stopped a point-blank shot. The Bear senior goalie faced 9 SOGs in the 1st 15 minutes and saved all but one. The home D and back-checking wingers contributed to this performance; the visitors in their 3 MAPHL games have averaged 24 SOGs.
A minute later the Bears scored Sebie “Tango” Kenary scored converting on passes from freshman Owen Moore and Sophomore Watts Colclough @ 10:07.
Coach Parker’s put 11 SO on the CH goalie.
END of 1st PERIOD BEARS 1 CARDINALS 1
The middle 15 minutes was marked by CH players being called for 6 minutes of penalties. The Bears PP, which are at the top of man advantage scoring, deposited 2 goals past the Cardinals’ goalie:
@ 04:58 Arhtur Smink from Quinn Farland andOwen Calderone
@3:48 Owen C. from Reid Pehrkon and Quinn
The visitors scored earlier at 11:45 to take a 2-1 lead, but the Landon boys took the lead on their PP goals.
Landon put 22SOGs in P2 and Phil made 5 saves. The Zamboni cleared the ice before play resumed.
END OF 2ND PERIOD BEARS 3 CARDINALS 2
Though CH incurred another 6 minutes of penalties, the home skaters did not add to their EMO (excuse the lax term) tally. The depth of Coach Parker bench was shown in this last stanza when Christian Daymude got his 1st MAPHL with an assist to Reid.
Landon forced the CH netminder to stop 9 stops (game total 41) while the Bear man in the crease blocked 17 CH shots.
