The Bears and the LITTLE Hoyas traditionally schedule a non-league (both IAC and MAPHL) game early in their seasons. It is a test of their respective squads, but honestly this first conflict on the ice is usually followed by three games in their regular season and playoffs calendar.
The Bears Den was full of FANS– students, parents and more. The insipid cheers cascaded from both ends of the rink. The emotional levels of both teams were elevated by these vocal supporters.
High school hockey seems to always begin with a series of end-to-end rushed by the opponents to size up the skaters’ speed. The Friday night overture “crescendoed” @ 9:34 when #11 NILS BERGSTROM connected with #13 WATTS COLCLOUGH for goal #1 in this match.
The talented, well discipline Bear D held GP at bay, only allowing 2 SOGs over the first period.

Though the GP defenders were instructed to stop #3 in white, the swift Bear forward, REID PERHKON,scored his 4th goal of the 2024 season @10:46. The visitors finally registered a goal on the scoreboard at 7:01.

Not surprisingly this worthy competitor responded and playing short-handed scored at 8:26. BATTLE ON, the visitors seemed to find more energy, Landon fought off a GP PP and did not relinquish a tally.
Then, REID flew down the right wing, attracting a number of the blue-sweatered D, faked as he approached the goalie RIGHT, kept the puck and skated ~ 6’ before the Hoya goalie moved from one post to the opposite and niftily tucked the puck in the back of the GP net = GOAL @ 2:17.
The Bear fans’ cheering reached 100 Db’s and the cacophony

continued as the referees found fault with a Bear, banishing him to the “sin bin’ [5 on 4 at 1:53], then the goalie was pulled [6 on 4 ~1:49] and the Bear D VALIENTLY denied their rivals a tying goal.
FINAL SCORE BEARS 3 littleHOYAS 2
