The ‘21-’22 MAPHL has been marked by many inexplicable results; teams expected to win have won some, but lost sure victories (and vice versa). Tonight’s game between the Bears and the Bulldogs fit that irregular pattern with the Denizens of the Den dominating the visitors until there were four minutes remaining in the game.
The 4-0 home team has shown a consistent approach to their game—winning face-offs, dominating 1 v.1 situations, moving the puck sharply, ruling the defensive slot and playing transitions well. Those positive attributes were prominent in the 1st period. The Bullis goalie frustrated his opponents (10 shots) until the 3:21 remaining mark when Tommy Trowern short-handed with an apple toIshaan Sethi
Leo Quattrone stopped all 7 Bulldog shots. {during the pregame warmups, #30 put on a hand-eye coordination show; he might consider a career as a juggler!!!}
Period #2 saw the Bears outshoot Bullis 12 to 3 and Reid Pehrkon and Mike Hardie showed some special hands on a pass to Kevin Fou who scored a nice @ 3:35 remaining. Quattrone shut out BS over these 15 minutes.
The final stanza continued under Bear control. @12:12 Sebby Kenary and Ishaan found Caden Blazer for the 3rd score. The game trend changed when a Bear was called for a penalty and then inexplicably a second sin was identified by the referees, giving Bullis a 2 man advantage. They converted at 4:49 and with +1, they added their second goal. The Bulldog celebration was most enthusiastic, as though they had won. Under 2 minutes remaining the visitors pulled their goalie to skate 6 on 5. Leo, the Bear Ds and Fs held the surge in abeyance. Bullis SOG 11, Landon SOG 9.
Friday at the Bears Den, the O’Connell Knights (1-1-3) arrive for a game @ 4:25.
The Potomac Bulldogs are one of 3 IAC teams with that mascot. The new Bullis sweaters are festooned with YELLOW and BLUE bands, suggesting that they might have a name distinction by the name THEBUMBLE BEEs? It works for Georgia Tech, University of Baltimore, Savanah College of Art & Design and St. Ambrose
