LANDON HOCKEY 13 WINSTON CHURCHILL HS 1

LANDON HOCKEY 13 WINSTON CHURCHILL HS 1

Yes, your eyes do not deceive you. The Bulldogs have been a close competitor against the Bears over the years– WCHS has been  eight time MASL champions including 2019 and WaPo’s preseason #4 in the DMV (#3 in 2018-19 with a 16-7-2 record). WCHS entered the Bears Den with a 5-3 record this season with the losses (average 3 goal losses) all against WCAC and GP teams.

This was Landon’s third game, all wins, but the home team looked really good in  this early season test. Having followed them since 2010, initial matches had two common characteristics—slow to start and passing/spacing/positioning was rough. The December 3 match in the Bears’ Den was different. The white-sweated team started with high energy and passes connected up the ice. Unselfish play, quick transition, dominance in the 1 v. 1 encounters, solid fore and back-checking and SHOOTING. The home team put at least 50 shots on the visitors’ goal and 13 of them beat the Bulldogs G who had a 1.6 GAA in MoCo play.

THIS IS ONLY THE FIRST MAJOR TEST IN THE SEASON, hopefully the same effusive comments will be repeated after games 4, 5,…
