The Bears and the Stags have a long and competitive history. The Hyattsville School has a well-earned reputation for its athletic prowess, last year DM won MAPHL. Not so this year, in MAPHL play they are 0-6-1. Frustration may have led to the visitors incurring 10 minutes of penalties and the home team converted on 5. This was a motto game: virtute et non vi.
Early in P1, the Stags were whistled for a minor foul. At 13:39, REIDPEHKRON converted a pass from OWEN MOORE for the Bears G1. At even strength, JACK McSHANE received the puck from CHRISTIAN DAYMUDE with an 2ndary assist from REID. The Stags’ second two minutes in the sin bin resulted in a goal by DECLAN JAMBERDINO With the apple to ELI SMINK @6:07.
The Landon D held their opponents to 8 SOGs with DANIEL ROSENTOCK stopping all; while his fellow Bears peppered the Stag in the nets with 13 SOGs.
P2 repeated the OWEN to REID combination @ 9:58. Tally 5 was recorded at 2:20 when OWEN earned a back-to-back assist, this time finding CADEN BLAZER. Then CADEN scored consecutive goals assist to REID @1:43. With 1:30 remaining, HANK MADDUX benefitted from a feed from REID. The goal differential resulted in a running clock.
This middle period was notable in that the Stags put 10 SOGs, all stopped by DANIEL. The Bears only put 8 shots on the frame, with a 50% success rate.
The last segment flew quickly with no stoppage of the clock. The Bears still earned their share of notches in the back of the DN net. At 12:13 CHRISTIAN D converted a pass from REID. Goal #9 saw CHRISTIAN BINNER net his 1st MAPHL goal with As to ELI and DECLAN JAMBERINO. The decadent goal was NIKLAS NYBERG’s initial MAPHL score [3:06] and REID register his 6th point of the game, MAKING HIM MAPHL’s point leader at 17.
DANIEL earned his 1st MAPHL SHUT OUT stopping all 22 DM shots (different number than league stats), while the Bear O had an economical 10 g on 25 SOGs.
Next Archbishop Spaulding at Piney Orchard Friday 3:20. The Cavaliers are 4-1-0 with comparable game averages in goals and goals against. They average more PIMs and fewer EMO goals. Should be a tough match,
Go Bears
