The Cadets of St. John’s College High School hold WaPo’s #1 DMV hockey ranking. Their MAPHL record shows them as 3-0 with a GF/GA differential of +34. Its skaters occupy half of the League’s top 10 scorers. Their netminders also are listed among the Top in GAAs.
They invited the Bears to play in a Cancer Benefit game, off the league’s schedule. A typical WCAC crowd is vociferous to say the least. The volume maxed out when only 2:46 into the game a Cadet scored. The opening 15 minutes saw Bear Goalie, Daniel Rosenstock, peppered with 10 SOGs stopping all but one. Landon was only able to put 3 SOGs in this opening stanza.
Early in P2, the Cadet Crescendo crashed. Landon freshman D, Andrew Chipperfield fed defensive pair, Graham Haberl and @12:43 beat the SJCHS netminder for what appears to have been the 1st GA surrendered by the opposing goalie. Second segment, Cadets 10 SOGs, Daniel 0 G; Bears 9 SOG.
The Zamboni resurfaced the ice and both teams returned reinvigorated. Landon recorded 8 SOGs and Daniel made all 4 saves needed.
SJCHS had averaged 11 Goals scored per MAPHL game. At this match the Bear D (all three levels and all of the lines) allowed 1 GA early in the game and thereafter, 42 minutes shut out the high-flying Cadets.
Bears head to Philly next week. Might someone email me (sandy_murdock@yahoo.com) with as much detail as your notetaking skills allow.
