The Bears reset their record for the longest game. Again, a Friday contest was interrupted by lightning; at 5:30pm, the initial boom and bolt of light were seen causing the referees to suspend play. As the front moved across Bordley Stadium at Triplett Field from the South End Zone to the North, enough further event-delaying strikes were registered to warrant a resumption on Saturday at noon. Total elapsed time for this game 21 hours (beating last week’s 16.5 hours record).
Over the first ~10 minutes of clock and 13 plays, the 6101 offense netted about 16 yards. The Bear D gave up 9 yards, intercepted a pass (Eric Ford) and registered 3 TFLs.
The first play on Saturday morning suggests that the Bear O slept well Friday night—a 32 yard pass from Kino Lilly to Tyler Smith @ 1:50 remaining in the 1st Q. Austin Schneider snapped to Billy Banfield who help for Dane “Swiss Army Knife” Camphausen who converted to make it LANDON 7 SMS 0
SAK boomed the kick-off into the end zone putting the Saints on their own 20. The visitors also benefitted from a good night’s sleep; for on their 2nd play of this possession, they completed a 70 yard pass and run. First and goal became 3rd and 13 after a TFL by Zayd DeLane. The team from the banks of Spa Creek showed that they have a KICKER when they converted a 42 FG attempt at 12:00 of Q2. LANDON 7 SMS 3
The 6101 D was impressive throughout the game; players who lined up on this side of the ball included: Greg Johnson, Graham Hertzberg, Tomas Kenary, Josh Chapman, Jelani Cross, Evan Murray, Teddy Bou, Zayd DeLane, James Thomas, Tyler Smith, Chaz Harley, Matt Kopp, Vernon Holleman, Tejon Ford, Billy Banfield.
The visitors’ kicker deposited the kick-off into the end zone (not surprising after his FG). Eight plays of Landon’s winged-T offense covered 80 yards. The home team line opened up holes in the middle of the line and Zayd (10,5,6) blasted through the Saint tacklers. Having drawn the SMS secondary to help tackle the Bears backs, Kino through a beautiful pass to TE Jelan Williams for a 24 yard gain; Zayd punched out another 11 yards. On 2nd and goal, Kino found Tyler for a 9 yard TD @8:45. Schneider to Banfield to Camphausen made it LANDON 14 SMS 3
SAK kicked to the 12 and SMS brought it back to the 24. TFLs by Eric and one shared by Teddy Bou and Evan Murray pushed the visitors into a 4th and 19. This punt only pushed the Bears 30 yards up the field.
1st and 10 on the 45—four runs Jelani M (11,9,4) and Tejon Ford (9) an SMS penalty and then a LS penalty set up 2nd down and goal to go. Kino to Tejon for a 4 yard TD pass @ 4:07. #45 to #17 to #7 = PAT LANDON 21 SMS 3
The O Line was shredding the Saints; the Bears were fresh with a number of substitutions- players: Greg Johnson, Miles Gaskins, Terrance Bridgers, Evan Ridgeway, Tomas Kenary, Evan Murray, Graham Hertzberg, Josh Chapman, Evan Ridgway, Jelani Cross, Eric Ford, Jalen Williams
The Saints earned two first downs, but on 3rd and 11, the center snapped the ball over his QB’s head. A good punt pushed the Bears back to their own 34. The rain increased dramatically, but Kino completed two passes (Tyler 14) and (Jelani M +40). The O fizzled in the remaining seconds of the half.

The home team returned the 2nd half kick-off and started a possession at its own 19; nine plays resulted in their 4th TD. Zayd, Jelani M and Kino moved the ball. The Sophomore QB made a critical sneak for a 3 yard run to the line to gain, and even more impressively, was able to corral a high snap and take off on a 33 broken play run. The coup de grâce was a 15 yard TD pass from Kino to Zayd @ 7:08. PAT good LANDON 28 SMS 3
The visitors were not broken, and they mounted a drive in the 3rd Q. Seven plays moved the ball 20 yards, but a 4th down attempt failed. Landon had an uncharacteristic three-and-out with a punt. An SMS pass earned them a 1st down, but the 2nd series resulted in a failed 4th down pass. The Bears had their first turnover when a Saint LB stepped in front of a pass.
The Annapolis team made the line to gain on a 4th down rush and passed for a consecutive set of first downs. Now 11 yards from a touchdown, the Saints were on the brink of a score. As ESPN’s Lou Holtz would say “not so fact my friend” for Jalen intercepted an SMS pass.
Now in the 4th Q, Landon started a 96 yard march which consumed 2 precious minutes off of the clock. Zayd moved the ball from the shadow of the goal posts with 2 runs totaling 12 yards, but Tejon erased all hope with a 50 yard run down the field. Zayd crossed the goal line after a 3 yard run @8:38. The automatic PAT was blocked Landon 34 SMS 3
The SAK kicked the ball into the end zone and the Saints put together a 12 play drive but stalled out by failing to convert. Landon had to punt after three plays.
The coaches made major substitutions now and through the 4th Q. Super spotter Suzann Murray recorded the following players on the field during these last two periods: James Waldron, Mansoor DeLane, Mitch Laughlin, Dameon Ming, Chantz Hartley, James Thomas, Erick Speight and Vernon Holleman. The visitors did not substitute; so, these Bears did well against last year’s MIAA B champions.
The next drive by the Annapolitans was brought to an end when one of their RBs tested the Bethesdans’ right side. Bad idea as Eric Ford, well-schooled in the art of tackling by Coach Evan Murray, hit his opponent perfectly causing a fumble and recovering the ball.
Dameon Ming, Chantz Hartley and Matt Amitay ate up 42 yards and almost 3 minutes. With 2nd and goal at the two, Jake Davidson BLASTED into the end zone @0:40 remaining. The Saints again blocked the PAT; however, the +37 point margin invoked a Maryland rule which required the clock to run, thus, the

After many, many years of service to the Landon Football, the school’s #1 mathematician, Mac Jacoby, could no longer put up with sitting next to Bear’65; so Will, the data wizard, is generating these real time numbers using a computer which is beyond the ken of Messrs. Jacoby and Murdock.
The SAK moniker is based on Dane’s ability to punt the ball with his left foot, place kick with his right=
ambipedal. Can catch alley oop passes and can throw the ball a mile. He is also a very talented hoopster and 1st baseman!
