Landon Football 35 McNamara 15
Arriving at the Forestville campus with loud music, decorations and the parking lots filled an hour before kick-off, it became clear that the Mustangs had invited the Bears to their homecoming game. The halftime included an introduction to the ~30 finalist for the “Court” and the Alumnae contributed to the 40 or so cheerleaders. Their band play list was worthy of college musicians. The home crowd was buoyed by the team’s 54-6 trouncing of Carroll last week.
[HISTORY NOTE: the two teams played 3 times from ’10 to ’12; Bears were 3-0 and one of the games was played at Navy-Marine Corps Stadium won by Landon 29-14 with a long TD run by Phil Pena.]
The Bears received the kick-off and executed their way to a TD on a 10 play drive/80 yards. The scoring play was a 42 yard pass from Kino Lilly to Tyler Smith @8:37 with a successful Austen Schnider to Billy Banfield to Dane Camphausen PAT– BEARS 7 MUSTANGS 0

Tyler retuned the kickoff to the 25 and a start to another series. Unfortunately, a pass hit the receiver’s hands (as he fell to try to make a great grab) and bounced into a BMHS defender’s hands. Big Josh Chapman set the opponents back with a QB SACK and they had to punt. The clock moved from Q1 to Q2.
Landon started at the +46 yard line and was flagged to two consecutive penalties. A nice run by Kino gained some added yardage when the home team was flagged for a 15 yard penalty. The last 17 yards were accounted for by a Tyler 17 yard TD run 8:21 of Q2 PAT good BEARS 14 MUSTANGS 7
The home team started at their 35 and only moved to the 37. The punt set the Bears at the other end of the field and a promising 9 play possession was disrupted by an interception. Another stout Bear D caused a 3 & out followed by a punt. With 2:14 until halftime, the Bear O moved the ball 42 yards, but stalled out.

As the teams lined up for the last 24 minutes, an honest observer could have fairly commented that either team could win. Within 7 minutes, the Bears had seized the momentum.
The homecoming team hoped to seize the day, but their QB, as he was being tackled {he worried about a safety} threw an underhanded pass directly into the hands of Jelani Machen for an interception.
First and ten for the visitors 15 yards from a TD, A Bear penalty made it 20 yards to go and Zayd DeLane went the distance in one play for 6 points; the PAT team added 1 @10:43 BEARS 21 MUSTANGS
The Forestville team strung together 7 positives gains and then a successful fake punt. The next play was a pass completion which was met with a big hit by Chazz Hartley and he grabbed the ball on the way to a 41 yard TD @8:58 PAT converted BEARS 28 MUSTANGS 7
BMHS ambitions to come back were frustrated by TWO incomplete passes due to Graham Hertzberg tipping the ball and then a sack by Tommy Kenary.
The visitors controlled the ball for 14 plays, 70 yards and 6 minutes of the clock into the 4th Q. Jelani M ran the last 2 yards for a TD @11:35 of the last period PAT good BEARS 35 MUSTANGS 7
Once again, the Mustangs rallied, completed passes and set up a 4th and eight. The QB arched a pass to the end zone and the receiver had the spheroid in his hands UNTIL he met Tejon Ford who broke it up decisively. BEARS BALL
Coach Padalino inserted some players to get some experience against a WCAC team. The Bear O consumed almost 4 minutes and flipped the field with a punt to the 11. The seventh play was a pass intercepted by Matt Kopp. Possessing the ball was the watch word for these four down. A punt gave the ball to the home team with seconds left and the Mustangs capitalized on the opportunity to score at 0:06 plus a 2 point conversion made it
