For the second year in a row, the Bears traveled to Harford County to play the MIAA B Patriots of John Carroll. For the second year in a row, the visitors won their first game of the season. Their opponents entered the game with a 2-0 record (21-7 over SSSA at Alexandria) and a roster with more than a dozen players of 200# +.
As a preface to this report, it must be noted that one of the Bears’ mainstays running back and linebacker, DP POPE, broke his leg late in the game. As soon as he is again inside the White Rocks, #5 will be displaying his Ursine leadership on the sidelines.

How did Landon overcome such a size disadvantage? Discipline ( adhere to positional task), dynamic O andD (their defensive packages require coordination of assignments, and the O line uses complex blocking schemes to defeat their larger counterparts) and speed/skill to assert control.
The initial possession by the Bears was a 3 and out. The Patriots held the ball for 9 plays/ 24 yards. The last series was stopped by two incomplete passes (one PD by SEAN MURRAY) caused the Patriots to punt.
UBIE ”gone” ZAID created momentum by his punt return of ~20 yds. to Landon’s 48. Good runs by DP and Sean plus a SEAN to DP pass set up a 1st down at the Patriots’ 33. Inside reverse to UBIE and he was “gone” for a TOUCHDOWN @ 4:19 of Q1. PAT GOOD (NICK DAVIDOFF snap to SEAN for the hold and kickby CADEN SOUTHWORTH) BEARS 7 PATRIOTS 0
Landon’s complex defense put MARSHALL HYMAN and KAISEN WOHLGEMUTH in position to use their speed; result a Patriot 4th and 22 forcing another punt.
Runs by DP and SEAN set upa 1st down at the Carroll 33 yard line. Time for UBIE’s 2nd consecutive TD of the same distance @0:15 of Q1, good PAT (58-8-10) BEARS 14 PATRIOTS 0

The Pats started off with good field position and went into Bear territory on 3 runs. MARSHALL was able to stop the opponents for losses on downs. The drive crashed when a PATRIOT fumbled ball.

To add some spice, @ 7:17 with 6 yards for a 1st, Landon set up to punt. The Ball was snapped to an upback, ordinarily the punter, SEAN ran far enough to move the chains.
