The Bears and Lakers have played each other for two of the last five years with a combined score of L49 BL 52 (one of the games was won by their punter/placekicker, now kicking at Wake Forest) The team from West Lake Avenue arrived at Bordley Stadium ready to play

The offenses exchanged possessions three times each before the either scored. BL had one nice long run (53 yards), but a Tom Kenary sack stopped that drive. Thereafter, Bear D consistently forced 3rd’s and long. That translated to better and better home team field position. A nice return by Tyler Smith (4 yards) put the ball at midfield, and four plays later, Jelani Machen zoomed by the BL defenders, including tight roping down the sideline for a 34 yard TD @ 0:02.9. The PAT was blocked BEARS 6 LAKERS 0

A celebration penalty turned the field position advantage to the Lakers and they scored on a 44 yard run and converted the PAT to take a lead at 10:50 LAKERS 7 BEARS 6 at the end of Q1.

The humidity (88%) was so thick and players on both sides of the ball experienced cramps. Each offense mounted 5-8 play drives without scores. With 2:13 remaining, the Bears tried their two minute offense. Two runs were followed by 4 consecutive pass completion. A long bomb was intercepted and then the visitors consumed the reminder of the time

Landon’s coaching staff got their players attention with their intermission “lecture”. The home team received the 3rd quarter kickoff and drove 80 yards in 10 plays in a little less than 4 minutes on the clock. Zayd DeLane, Jelani M and Tyler accrued most of the distance on the ground. The last 21 yards of turf were attributed to a 21 yard spiral from Kino Lilly to Tyler @ 8:39 PAT good BEARS 13 LAKERS 7

Dane Camphausen’s kickoff went to the 2 and returned to the Bears 11; so, the Boys from West Lake Avenue had a lot of turf to cover. Jalen Williams added to the visitors’ goal with a TFL and that was worsened by a BL penalty. The visitors’ punt did not traverse the 50 yard line. Six plays moved the line to gain and Kino cruised the last 8 yards for a TD @ 3:04. The Lakers blocked the PAT to make it BEARS 19 LAKERS 6

The visitors controlled the ball for 8 downs going 25 yards up the field. T Bridgers deflated the BL momentum by two TFLs.  The first play for Quarter 4 was a BL punt.

DeAngelo Dickerson and Dameon King gashed the Lakers’ D aided by some very effective blocking by the Bear O line. Zayd ran the last 14 yards for a TD @9:54 and a good PAT made the score Bears 26 Lakers 6

The Lakers mounted a five play drive, but Graham Hertzberg interrupted that with a TFL.

The BL punt pushed the ball back 75 yards from the Bears’ goal, but fresh, young legs (Dameon, Chantz Hartley, Matt Amitay and James Thomas) ran down the field with Dameon gobbling up 45 yards in one play and the last 2 yards for a TD@2:30 PAT good BEARS 33 LAKERS 7

A final kickoff and three more BL plays brought the game to an end.
