Landon Football 27 St. Paul’s 6

The Crusaders of Brookland play in the tough MIAA A league and posted a roster with several large players. SPS’s new coach Troy Gibson, coached at Archbishop Spaulding until last season, was dealing with a lot of injuries and had posted a 1-1 record with a win over Annapolis Christian and a loss to St. James, once an IAC team.

To say the first half was a defensive battle would be partially right, but some of the failure to move or score can be attributed to penalties and fumbles by both squads.

At roughly 7 minutes expired in Q1, Bear DB Troy Ulisney cut in front of a Crusaders pass and sprinted 20 yards for a TD. The PAT did not convert. BEARS 6 CRUSADERS 0

Twelve minutes of Q2 were uneventful.

The next period was much like most of the first period- one step forward & five back, passes that missed the targets or were dropped and more than a soupçon of penalties by both sets of competitors.

 The trend ended after EARLY in Q4 QB Nathan Furgeson drove the final 4 yards for the first offensive TD of the game and WB Anthony Panetti converted a 2 point play BEARS 14 CRUSADERS 0

St. Paul’s scored next set up by a long play, but their Kicker could not convert BEARS 14 CRUSADERS 6

Late in this last period, Bear DB Ahmed Zaid scooped a Crusaders fumble and ran 30 yards for another TD by the DBEARS 20 CRUSADERS 6

Two sacks led to a home team turnover on downs and the visitors started on the SPS’s 41. Another Landon offensive TD was scored by Anthony on a 4 yard run. PAT good BEARS 27 CRUSADERS 6

The 6101 Wilson Lane D sealed the outcome when  Spencer Hotchkiss recovered a fumble.
