FORENOTE : for today’s battle with St. Albans, a little history about from when the hill and school got their moniker

Landon Football 26 St. Albans 23

On seniors day (17 members of L22), the Bears earned a victory in the 2nd half to record a 6-3 (3-2) year. The visiting Bulldogs featured 22 seniors, a much publicized senior QB and a rare winning record at the last game of the year (the 1st record above .500 in eight years). This squad won 6 and lost 4.

Q1 and Q2 saw a total of 7 penalties, 4 fumbles and an interception. Landon’s O did not reach the Line-to-Gain in 7 possessions. Fortunately, the Brown-uniformed D held the StA team to a 27 yd FG and a 2 yard TD but a failed PAT.

Three-and-out by both teams started the 3rd Q. A big turn of events occurred here when the StA gained a chunk of yards only to have the Landon Swiss Army Knife, Hunter Taylor, extricate the ball from the Bulldog.  The Landon O started moving—6 plays ending with a Jacob Rosner  to Carter Phillips 9 yard TD pass; PAT good Bulldogs 9 Bears 7

Landon put together six positive plays, four runs by Aaron Hart and highlighted by a brilliant broken field 24 yard run by Tony Panetti to set up a first and goal. The clock moved to Q4, and Nate Rosner “sneaked” into the end zone @ 8:00 Bears 13 StA 9. The kicking team was called back after an overexcited Bulldog violated the neutral zone. With the ball on the 1.5 yard line, the home team’s offense returned to the field and behind Jeremiah Peebles, Nate R pushed forward for a two point play. Bears 15 Bulldogs 9

Thus, the last and telling period started. StA put together an eight play possession (from its 48 yard line) to score on their QB 10 yard line. The StA PAT was good giving them a one point lead at 8:57.

The visitors responded with an 86 yard TD pass play and a good conversion Bulldogs 23 Bears 15 @ 6:52. Apparently inspired by the long TD pass, Nate R connected with Carter Phillips on an 80 yard TD. For the point after, the Bears selected the deuce option. Tying the score on a Nate R to Taylor Best pass, the nerves of all were on edge. Bulldogs 23 Bears 23 @ 6:52.

The Bear defense stymied their opponents aided by a bad snap, an intentional grounding by the StA QB and a holding call against one of his linemen. Landon took the ball at their own 42—5 runs by Aaron Hart and another elusive scamper by Tony Panetti brought the spheroid to the 2.5 yard line. On fourth down, Swiss Army Knife Hunter Taylor kicked a 20 yard FG @ 0:36. Bears 26 Bulldogs 23

The StA QB threw 2 completions, 4 incompletes and a spike to end the game.

FINAL SCORE BEARS 26 BULLDOGS 23

Please note that these Bulldogs reside in DC as opposed to the Potomac Bulldogs.
