Landon Football 21 Georgetown Prep 28

The Bears faced the little Hoyas, a team with considerable weight, height, depth (very few two way players), skill and speed. GP’s two best players, a ’26 top recruit with multiple Power 5 offers was humongous and a ’28 running back with a lower body that rebuffed all tackles plus he was super swift. Others on the Rockville Pike roster were recognized by scouting services as prospects. A professional prognosticator would have been shocked by how the Bear efforts, skills and discipline put them in a tie at the 4th Q.

Landon won the toss, deferred and kicked to GP. The home D forced their opponents to punt after 3 downs; in response the Bears O moved the line-to-gain  45 yards in 8 plays but had to punt.

GP, a/k/a the 3rd IAC with a Bulldog as mascot. used 8 plays to cross the goal line which was 81 yards from their first possession. All of that yardage was gained on the ground. At 4:37 of Q1 GP 7 L 0.

Once again possessing the ball. Landon traveled 32 yards but had to relinquish the spheroid via a punt. The next GP drive moved well, but an incomplete pass plus a penalty stifled this offensive.  The game clock signaled that the game had moved to Q2.

END OF Q2 GP 7 L0

Switching ends worked well for the home team—in four minutes, the Bears advanced the line of scrimmage- SEAN MURRAY completed 4 passed (receptions: UBIE “GONE” ZAID  and MAC “YAC” COHEN) plus CADEN SOUTHWORTH a 10 yarder for a TD @5:09, PAT good L7 GP 7.

The stalwart Landon D, most playing two ways, stopped their rivals, three and out. Back with possession, the home O did not gain enough  to retain it. GP used the remaining 1:14 to advance their score to 14

HALFTIME GP 14 L 7

The coaches’ intermission adjustments appeared to have worked. Ten plays –4 runs, 5 passing plays plus a successful fake punt (MATT ROSNER with a great pass)- accelerated the Bears from their 40 to across the GP goal line. The coup de grâce was a SEAN to LOGAN CASSIDAY 17 yard TD completion @7:28 of Q3, pat good L14 GP 14.

The not so little Hoyas responded with a signature series of 10 runs totaling 72 yards, only momentarily detained by a TFL by SEAN. GP 21 L 14

Bears, undeterred, consumed 59 yards on the next drive, the big chunk was a SEAN to JUSTICE TURNER43 yard TD throw and run @ 1:35 of Q3 L 21 GP 21

END OF Q3 L 21 GP 21

As the scoreboard moved from third to fourth, the Rockville Bulldogs consumed almost 9 minutes on the clock all runs totaling 58 yards at 7:01 of Q4 GP 28 L 21.

Though there was time on the clock, the L O were unable to earn a first down and saw the GP running machine kill the 5:01 remaining on the clock.
