The Alexandria Maroon came to Bethesda with a record not befitting a team with 3 players over 300# and 5 weighing in at least 200# plus a number of talented skill players. The hosts sought an important second IAC wnl as they head to the Bullis & StA last segment of their season.
EHS entered Bordley Stadium at Triplett Field with fire in their bellies and drove 84 yards in nine plays. Their go-for-broke attitude led to their attempting and succeeding at a 2 point PAT. At 7:01 of Q1 EHS 8 BEARS 0
The home team was undeterred by this initial blow and responded. Eleven Bear plays (3 runs, 4 through the air) moved the ball 54 yards. The last yard into the end zone was a pass from SEAN MURRAY to RILEY LUGAR @3:31 PAT goodEHS 8 BEARS 7
The kickoff put the Maroon back on the EHS 37; runs and passes advanced the ball, but A key play was a TFL by Matt Rosner from which their O did not recover. The visitors 4th down 41 yard FG attempt- missed.
The Bears regained possession at their own 20 and zoomed down the field- UBIE ZAID showed another FB talent by getting a pitch and throwing a parabolic spiral to JAMES GIBSON for 7. Then SEAN resumed his pitching role and threw a strike to CADEN SOUTHWORTH, and the final O attack returned the spheroid UBIE on a reverse and then returned it to SEAN via the air for a 25 yard TD @9:18 PAT good BEARS 14 EHS 8
Landon would not relinquish this lead for the remaining 42 minutes; the other trend worth noting the guests earned 5 penalties in Q1on the way to a total of 14 game total. The referees flagged them several times for personal fouls.
The Maroon O was stopped after 5 plays, the ball turned over on a 4th down attempt that the Brown D stopped short of the line-to-gain. The home offense lined up to punt on the same important down and the punt team unsuccessfully tried to pass to earn another series- INCOMPLETE.
Alexandria’s O unit moved the chains to the L25 and on 2nd down threw a pass that MATT caught and ran 70 yards for a PICK SIX @3:30, PAT good BEARS 12 EHS 8.
With only 2:25 left the Marrons made a valiant attempt to score, gaining 53 yards the red-brown, burgundy team settled for a 25 yard FG BUT MISSED @ 13.6
