The Bulldogs of Potomac, as opposed the same mascot on a Hill in DC and on Rockville Pike, invited the Bears to be their guests for a Bullis Homecoming. Contrary to their aspirations, the 5-2 home team did not please their fans with a 13-21 loss.
It was not a pretty competition with blocked FG attempts, interceptions, and fumbles. The Bears may be faulted for a bit of deflation from their incredible battle against the Bulldogs of Rockville Pike. (Oh by the way the Rockville Pike Bulldogs suffered an even great post game deflation by losing to EHS). They tested their bend-but-not-break defense with BS possessions of 13 ,12, 7,6 and 8 plays without scoring. Penalties, fumbles, incomplete passes (break up’s by ZACH CAMERON and TROY ULISNEY), interceptions (ZACH) , TFLs (ANTHONY PANETTI plus?) and other failed executions frustrated the Potomac O.
The visiting O did not cross the BS goal line until 1:11 remaining in Q2. QB NATHAN FURGESON (I’ll be back for wrestling and lax) orchestrated a 5 play 37 yard, drive—2 passes resulted in a 2nd and goal with DP POPE covering the final yard for a TD@ 1:11. The PAT team (TILLER SMITH to SEAN MURRAY to CHASE ROBERTSON) converted to make it BEARS 7 BULLDOGS (Potomac) 0.
With only 1:04 until half the home team moved the ball 55 yards to register a 39 yard FG @0:00.
HALFTIME BEARS 7 BULLDOGS (Potomac) 3.
Landon started with the ball in Q3; although advancing the line of scrimmage by 20 yards, they had to return possession via punt. Two BS plays were followed by a fumble (recovery was by a scrum of Bears, individual???. Taking advantage of favorable field position, runs by ANTHONY (11yds) and NATHAN (+7) set up a 2nd and 9 from the BS 18—a distance covered by a NATHAN to UBIE ZAID TD pass @ 6:39 PAT GOOD
BEARS 14 BULLDOGS (potomac) 3
The Homecoming team showed their fans some O action driving 71 yards in 10 plays, but a key pass defense by TROY led to a successful BS 25 yard FG @2:08 remaining in the 3rd stanza.
BEARS 14 BULLDOGS (potomac) 6
The opponents both experienced 3-and-out’s which placed the BEARS 76 yards from another score. Execution to a T. Six runs and two passes resulted in a 4th and 6 at the Bullis 46. Conservative play calling set up a fake kick as NATHAN passed to SEAN MURRAY for a 28 yard gain. At 2-and-goal from the 8, Coach Padalino sent trips wide to the right. That made a NATHAN to ANTHONY pitch left a TD @6:56 PAT good:
BEARS 21 BULLDOGS (potomac) 6
That saw the BS team show its best O performance—driving 79 yards in 4 plays for a TD @5:56.
BEARS 21 BULLDOGS (potomac) 13
Landon, in order to preserve its IAC victory, held the ball for 4 minutes. A NATHAN to UBIE 36 yard pass, an unsportsmanlike penalty, runs by NATHAN AND DP left the ball 85 yards from a home team score- they homecoming fans saw 7 plays advance the line 17 yards, and failed on a 4th down pass. Bears had only to take a knee to consume the 0:15 remainder
FINAL SCORE BEARS 21 BULLDOGS (potomac) 13
