Landon Bears Hockey 3 O’Connell Knights 2

NOTE:

Every MAPHL game this year is a challenge; prior results may reflect a depleted roster due to COVID. The Knights arrived at the Bears Den with the anticipation that they could beat the undefeated Bears, a claim which would have even greater significance in 7 days if the appellation remains true.

The home team controlled the puck for at least five minutes from face-off until the first goal @ 12:31 when Mike Hardie passed to Kevin Fou for goal #1. Landon outshot O’C 10 to 6 (Quattrone 5 saves), but a breakdown led to a Knight 1-on-the-Bear goalie breakaway goal at 11:21. The home team had to deal with a number of “called” penalties, playing Bear down for six minutes of the first period.

First Period Bears 1 Knights 1

The next 15 minutes emphasized D by both teams. Landon again put 10 shots on goal while O’C directed 7 at Leo, all of which he stopped. As the Zamboni warmed up to cut the ice, Kevin returned the earlier favor by connecting with Michael @ 0:22.6 for goal 2 for the Bears

Second Period Bears 2 Knights 1

The last segment of the match started out on a positive note–@ 11:30, benefitting from a Knight being sent to the dungeon for 2, a pass from Kevin connected with Reid Pehrkon {instead of #3, it appears that #5 Arthur Smink scored} for an added margin. Another O’C breakaway reduced the difference at 7:15. The visitors launched an all out assault for the remainder of the 3rd ; they pulled the goalie skating 6 on 5 for at least 2 minutes. Leo stopped 6 of the Knight shots and he exposed the crossbar/uprights to a couple of shots—testament to his coverage of the net—they had to shoot there to beat the Bear goalie.

FINAL SCORE BEARS 3 KNIGHTS 2
