Landon 9 Prep 8
Down 5-0 early to Prep, the Landon Bears rallied to post a 9-8 win at Georgetown Prep today. The win give the Bears the 2010 IAC tournament title and an equal share (some shares are more equal than others) of the 2010 IAC Lacrosse overall title.
It looked like senior day out there as Harrison Archer and Jimmy Sloan both netted a pair of goals. Single goals were also posted by Patrick Keena, Austin Dodson, John Blizzard, and Wes Lincoln, and Will Korengold.
This year’s seniors have won 1 outright IAC championship (2008), twice shared the season title (2009 & 2010) and have twice won the IAC tournament!
Will Joyce turned in yet another clutch performance as he and the defense stifled Prep after their early scoring burst. Justin Murphy and Wes Lincolnhad big days at the X.
After spotting the home team a 5-0 advantage, Landon fought back to close to 5-3 by half time.
In the third quarter, the Bears erupted and by the time there were but 2 minutes remaining the Bears were 9-7. A Prep goal with 0:47 seconds remaining put all on the edge of their seats, but a Justin Murphy faceoff win and two flags on Prep sealed the deal.
The game also saw the arrival of Landon’s victorious baseball Bears who finished off Prep this morning and then walked on to St. Alban’s field and came away with an 8-7 extra innings win (on a squeeze play, none the less) to take the IAC baseball tournament title.
It was a bad day to be a Bulldog or a Hoya (whatever that is)!
