Landon alumnus Alex Cade annually brings his Coronado team (10-1 in 2011; scoring an average of 10+ goals and allowing 4.5; with one Div I, one Div 2 and 2 Div 3 recruits) back to the fields where he learned about excellence. Like Coach Bordley, the Islanders coach has created a dynasty in California, but unlike his mentor, Alex chooses not to wear shoes even in the cold and rainy weather today. The Bears bested their visitors 9-4. Landon is now 12-2 heading into their game against the boys from Rockville Pike next week.
Patrick Keena opened the scoring at 11:03 with a nice dodge and shot from the 5’x5 box. His score was followed by a nice pass from Charlie Schnider to Matt Opsahl, who buried it for a LS 2 CHS 0 lead.
END OF 1ST Q LANDON 2 CORONADO 0
Garrett Fellows, a sophomore midfielder, scored his 1st Varsity goal on a nice roll back dodge setting up a short shot/goal at 9:21.The Islanders got on the scoreboard at 4:16 (no roster available).
HALFTIME LANDON 3 CORONADO 1
An early goal from Hank Brown, thus pleasing his grandfather who was in attendance, at 11:45 added to the lead, LS4 CHS 1. Marshall Peters, primarily a SSDM (SO), ventured into the Bears O end of the field and fed his senior Captain Patrick Keena for a goal at 7:07. The Islanders responded with an EMO @ 6:14 LS 5 CHS 2. The Bears then had a mini run of two goals both involving Charlie Schnider—the Junior Middie fed Peter Laco at 5:18 and then scored on his own at 0:41.
END OF 3RD Q LANDON 7 CORONADO 2
The Islanders showed their offensive talents with Alex Boukout’s goal on an assist at 9:16 and then an unassisted goal at 1:32 (his Dad was in the press box so he was readily identified). Between those Coronado goals, Landon SO middie Philip Pena scored at 7:59 and then Sam Lynch (a FR middie) scored an unassisted EMO goal @ 2:58.

EXPLANATION OF THE KHARI BATEN “THAT’S A BEAR AWARD
One of the parents asked me to repeat the origin and the purpose of the KB award. The selection of an individual for the KB award is meant to identify someone whose team play (not necessarily individual statistics) reflect the level of effort which Khari exhibited in his careers at Landon, at Williams and as a coach at several schools in Philadelphia, PA. For more about why Khari is being honored and needs YOUR Support, here is a brief summary of his most difficult case:Khari is a member of the Landon class of 1990 , during his Bear career he was a major contributor to the football and lacrosse teams. He went to Williams College, studied history and was a four year member of the Ephmen Football team. Upon graduation, Khari joined the Landon faculty where he was a respected member of the football and lacrosse coach staffs from 1994 to 1996.
Khari has been cursed by a horrible set of medical catastrophes—Germ Cell Cancer, Guillian-Barre Syndrome—his therapy and efforts put both of those threats in remission only to have four reoccurrences (to see more about Khari, please go to www.helpkhari.com). His medical expenses are severe and his needs are extreme.
