Landon 75 Avalon 67
Landon Basketball 75 Avalon 67 By Vernon Holleman Tonight, the Bears won their second straight game. The Bears began the game in dominating fashion. Justin Patterson started off the game hot in the paint. The Bears dominance was most shown in the paint, where the Bears scored 48 points throughout the game, compared to Avalon’s just 18. The Bears size was too much for Avalon, and the Bears were up 22-10 after the first quarter. The second quarter was even more dominate for the Bears. The defense put on straps, and only allowed Avalon to score 6 points in the whole quarter. The Bears had 11 steals in the game, and many of these came in the second quarter. 17 points came off of these turnovers, and 12 of these points off of turnovers came in the second quarter. Canin Reynolds also got hot during this quarter, and scored 7 points during the quarter. The Bear’s defense was able to give the Bears a huge halftime lead, and this led to everyone that was dressed being able to get playing time in the second half. The Bears led at halftime 39-16 at halftime. The third quarter Was the best for the Bear’s offense, but the defense was much worse than it had been in the first half. Avalon got HOT from the field, and shot over 50% from behind the arc. The Bears, however during the third quarter were hot themselves, and Canin Reynolds, Julian Larosiliere, and Dane Camphausen all had huge baskets, to grow the Bear’s lead grew. The Bears scored 22 points in the quarter, and had great ball movement. All but 2 baskets scored during this quarter were assisted on, and really showed how well the Bears can move the ball with flashy passes from Canin Reynolds and Tejon Ford that led to baskets from Julian and Justin in the paint. The Bears led after 3 quarters 61-35. The final quarter was a great opportunity for Bears who do not get a whole lot of playing time to get to get some time. Mikey Amsellem, Daraun Gray, and Brown Anglin all scored big baskets during the fourth. However, Avalon was able to get ridiculously hot from behind the arc, and scored 32 points in just the final quarter. This was almost the same amount that they had scored throughout the game up to this point, and almost all came from one player for Avalon who scored 39 points in just the second half. This allowed Avalon to cut the lead to just 8 with 30 seconds left, but the Bear’s lead was never in question. The Bears won the game 75-67, and scored a season high in points, and broke 70 points for just the third time this season. The Bears will return to action against Episcopal High School on Wednesday away at 6:00. The Bears are coming off two straight wins, and will look to attempt to win three straight games for the first time this season. To do this, they must continue to score in the paint like they did tonight. This game was a perfect example of what happens when the Bears attempt to go inside, and do it with success. The Bears must continue to build on what they have improved during the last few games, and will need to to be able to beat one of the best teams in the league.
