Landon 6 Bullis 2- 1st round of IAC
By Herb Greenwald
Landon won their first playoff game of the 2011-12 season, defeating the Bullis Bulldogs 6-2 in the IAC semi-finals. The first period started off slow as the players seemed to be waking up after a hard day of academics. Bullis took a 1-0 lead at the 4:16 mark of the first period. The Bulldogs cheering section was ‘ and rolling thinking upset. The Bears just seemed to stick with the game play and finally scored at the 9:51 mark. The first period ended in a 1-1 tie with Landon holding the edge in shots on goal 5-4. The second period belong to the Bears. Landon outscored Bullis 3-1 with the shot count at 12-5 in favor of Landon. Matt Potolicchio scored a short handed goal which seemed to give Landon all that they needed to finish off the Bulldogs. Landon added 2 more goals in the third period and outshot Bullis 19-8. But lets step back to the 2nd period. With the score 2-1 and Bullis controlling the puck, our co-“That’s a Bear” award represents pure team work. Forward Joel Rosenszweig and Will Buckingham were backchecking hard and were a force in the neutral zone. They managed to gain control of the puck a start a 2 on 1 towards the Bullis goal. Joel Rosenszweig made a perfect tape-to-tape pass to Will Buckingham, who simply guided the puck into the right side on the net. “Bucky’s goal was just a result of Will and Joel’s hard work at practice since November”, according to Coach Gammill. Coach Farnstrom adds, “they both just want to contribute to the success of the team on and off the ice.” This is why for the game, we have co-winners. Bucky’s goal turned out to be the game winner.
