Landon 59 Episcopal 75
Landon basketball 59 Episcopal High School 75 By Vernon Holleman Tonight, the Bears were not able to extend the win streak to 3, and lost a tough game to Episcopal. The Bears started off the game as they have the last few games, and got hot early. Canin Reynolds hit a 3 to tie the game at 9 with 4 minutes left in the first. The rest of the quarter was trading baskets, and Episcopal really got hot inside the paint. The Bears could not stop the Maroon dominated inside, and the Bears trailed 13-17. The Bears looked good, but would have to figure it out on the interior if they wanted to stay in the game. The second quarter was worse offensively for the Bears, and better offensively for Episcopal than the first quarter. Episcopal his a 3 to take a 9 point lead, but was quickly responded by Canin Reynolds with a 3. The 6 point lead for the Maroon would last with trading baskets for a while, but was grown to 12 after 2 and-1 baskets where the Maroon would convert on their free throws. This was the story of the game, and Episcopal had 5 and-1 baskets throughout the game, which added up to 15 points, as Episcopal made all of their free throws after being fouled and making the layup. Episcopal went on a run, and were up 36-24 at the break. The second half started off well for the Bears, but then fell cold while Episcopal got hot. This was unfortunately the Bear’s cold quarter, and the game seemed to fall out of the hands of the Bears. The Bears actually pulled within 6 with 7 minutes left in the third after a big Julian Larosiliere layup. However, after Episcopal called timeout, the Bears really struggled to score turning the ball over many times through the rest of the quarter. Episcopal was able to score a lot off of these turnovers, and had 16 points off of just 12 Bear turnovers. On the other hand, the Bears were able to cause 16 Episcopal turnovers, but were only able to convert 12 points off of these turnovers. The Maroon went on a run for the rest of the quarter, and the Bears trailed 33-54. The fourth quarter the Bears were actually able to score a lot, but it was not enough, and were still not able to stop Episcopal inside the paint. The Bears scored 26 points in this quarter, the most of the game for the Bears, but Episcopal scored 21 much of them coming inside the paint. Canin Reynolds, Kino Lilly, and Daraun Gray all got hot from behind the arc, and were the biggest reason for this big point surge at the end of the game. However, without the big pretense of Mac Hollensteiner inside of the paint, Episcopal was able to score 38 points in the paint, while the Bears were only able to score 18. This was the biggest problem of the game, with Episcopal setting the tone on the inside early, and continuing their dominance throughout the game. The Bears got hot too late, but were able to show that they do not give up no matter how much they trail, and showed heart the Bears lost 59-75. The Bears will play for the third time this week on Friday in Virginia again, as they will play St. Stephens. The Saints are another physical athletic team that the Bears will have to try to control not only in the paint, but in the perimeter as they can hit some shots behind the arc. The Bears will have to so a better job converting off of turnovers, and will need to find what they were able to do against St. Andrews, Bullis, and STA from the free throw line, as it took a step backwards tonight.
