LANDON 57 BULLIS 47 onto EHS

2 min read

The Bullis Bulldogs came to Landon with the idea that their 2010 upsets in the IAC basketball tournament would repeat in 2011. Landon’s UVa-bound Darion Atkins literally rejected that notion with 4 blocks of the all of visitors’ shots in the first four minutes of the game. By the victory, the Bears will now have a third chance to beat EHS tomorrow night.

At the other end of the court, Chris Hudnut scored the Bears’ first 5 points and had 13 of the team’s 25 halftime points. Joe McDonald, Deion Wellington, Kellen Miller and Darion chipped in first half points. The Landon D stymied the Bulldogs offense and the Bear big men dominated the boards.

The third period saw Landon increase its lead through a combination of more Darion blocks (2 more) plus scoring by Deion, Darion, Chris and Joe McDonald. The Landon co captain guard, Joe, dealt a serious blow to the Bullis hopes by drawing the 4th foul on the Bulldogs Junior forward,  Jonathan Tshibuy (12 points for the night) at 2:19 remaining in the 3rd quarter and as the period drew to a close Chris caused the Bulldogs’ tallest player, Nigel Pruitt, to commit his 4th foul with 0:53 left

END OF 3RD QUARTER. LANDON 40 BULLIS 24

Early blocks and steals by the Bears [Darion, (game total of 11) and Chris]  gave them a cushion that buffered against the Bullis furious full court press and flurry of unconscious three point shots. Joe had a critical defensive rebound and score at the other end to seal the home team victory.
