LANDON 5 SAINT STEPHENS/ SAINT AGNES 3 , KB award, a Senior profile and BLTF
The Bearscompleted an undefeated regular IAC season by beating Saint Stephens & Saint Agnes 5-3,but under the new IAC rules 😦 , a 5-0record againstthese opponents is of little value; the tournament is the sole basis for the season’s championship. The Saints arrived at Goddard Field early and it was clear that they wanted badly to beat the Bears—zone defenses, efforts to shut off the Bear attackman and a very spirited approach; the Bears evidenced enough effort to win and several players were sidelined to rest for the upcoming IAC playoff. Under these circumstances, it was appropriate
that the 4 years of yeoman efforts had a culmination point today,
that a player who relishes assists over goals and
that a player who rides as hard as he shoots,.
would establish a new Landon career points mark. Patrick Keena assisted on a goal in the 4th quarter and set 210 points as the new standard. He surpassed Taylor Simmers mark of 209.
UNC bound got the Saints on the board at 11:10 of the first period. LSM Kellen Miller tookthe ball the length of the field to tie the score 1-1 at 7:30. The visitors played a zone defense for much of this period, while the home tam played an aggressive D and a smothering ride to limit the red jerseys to few shots.
END OF 1ST Q LS 1 SSSA 1
The same tactics resulted in a very tight second period. The Bears were playing EMD, but they were able to turn the ball over, clear the ball into the SSSA defensive zone and have Pearce Minshall (who carried the ball most of the way) run through several visitor defenders. His efforts put him in close proximity of the opposing goalie and the senior middie scored a shorthanded goal at 3:13.
HALFTIME LS 2 SSSA 1
The Saints tied the score at 6:31 , but the Bears’ Charlie Schnider took actions to assure the Bears of a victory with a goal on a helper from linemate Hank Brown at 4:16 and then a second consecutive score at 1:12. This last deposit into the SSSA goal was notable in that the assist allowed his Captain to tie the Landon career points mark.
END OF 3RD Q LS 4 SSSA 3
David Murray of the Saints narrowed the margin with a goal at 10:18. Peter Laco reestablished the Bears’ margin as +2 with a goal at 8:29. He did so with the aid of Patrick Keena, who set the new record on that pass—210 career points.
FINAL SCORE LANDON 5 SAINT STEPHENS & SAINT AGNES 3
Unfortunately, the writer failed to capture the GBs, CTs, F/Os; so the statistics section will be omitted tonight; sorry

Khari Baten, “That’s a Bear” award to PATRICK KEENA , www.helpkhari.com
EXPLANATION OF THE KHARI BATEN “THAT’S A BEAR AWARD One of the parents asked me to repeat the origin and the purpose of the KB award. The selection of an individual for the KB award is meant to identify someone whose team play (not necessarily individual statistics) reflect the level of effort which Khari exhibited in his careers at Landon, at Williams and as a coach at several schools in Philadelphia, PA. For more about why Khari is being honored and needs YOUR Support, here is a brief summary of his most difficult case:Khari is a member of the Landon class of 1990 , during his Bear career he was a major contributor to the football and lacrosse teams. He went to Williams College, studied history and was a four year member of the Ephmen Football team. Upon graduation, Khari joined the Landon faculty where he was a respected member of the football and lacrosse coach staffs from 1994 to 1996. Khari has been cursed by a horrible set of medical catastrophes—Germ Cell Cancer, Guillian-Barre Syndrome—his therapy and efforts put both of those threats in remission only to have four reoccurrences (to see more about Khari, please go to www.helpkhari.com). His medical expenses are severe and his needs are extreme. |

Bears vs. Bears
Princeton (Reilly, Reilly, Grossman, and Strabo) played from the start like they knew this match was an absolute must win if their season was to continue. The Tigers, jumped to a 4-0 lead in the first quarter and held the lead at the half. Cornell (Feely and Paoletta) answered in the third, taking the lead which they then held for remainder of the contest. Connor Reilly and Jack Strabo each had one ground ball for Princeton while Max Feely had 2 ground balls and one caused turnover. For the Tigers, the 2011 season is done. For Cornell, it’s on the Ivy League tournament (vs. Yale) next weekend where they are the #1 seed and then to the NCAA’s.
Bears in Action
Tufts (Findaro and Rhoads) had a very busy week, playing three games. The Jumbos split the two regular season games and the won their NESCAC Conference quarterfinal game against Connecticut College. For the week, Nick Rhoads had 2 goals, 18 ground balls and won 31 of 60 face-off’s. Next on the schedule is Bowdoin in the conference tournament semi’s. Tufts will be seeking some revenge as the Polar Bears were the only NESCAC to beat the Jumbos.
The Patriot League held their tournament this weekend with the Bucknell Bison (McDonough) playing host. The Bison were not particularly gracious hosts, as they handily dispatched Lehigh in the semi’s and thrashed Colgate in the final. Sam McDonough got off a shot in the final, his first shot of the year! Bucknell has secured the Patriot league AQ by winning the tournament title, so next Sunday they will be looking to see who their opponent will be and where they will be playing. This will be the Bison’s second NCAA tournament appearance having last played in 2001.
Gettysburg (Dodson and Lincoln) reached the finals of the Centennial Conference tournament by beating Haverford, but lost to Dickinson 6-5 in the final. Austin Dodson did what he could to put the Bullets on top, putting three shots on goal in the final, but converting none. Gettysburg will now await the committee’s decisions on the D-III field.
In regular season action:
· Duke (Tkac and Offit) beat Jacksonville as Josh Offit scored twice on five shots. Duke now awaits their seeding for the first round of the NCAA Division I tournament.
· Denver (Archer) won their final regular season game over Fairfield. Harrison Archer took one shot in the game. Denver hosts the ECAC (yes that “E” stands for “East”) tournament. The Pioneers will take on Ohio State and the winner of that game will play the winner of the Loyola/Fairfield game. The winner of this tournament gets the ECAC AQ for the NCAA tournament.
Next Week
In addition to the conference tournament action described above, Hofstra (Cassidy) takes on Delaware as the #1 seed in the Colonial Conference tournament semis with the winner of the game taking on the Penn St/UMass game. The tournament winner gets the conference’s AQ for the NCAA D-I tournament.
Georgetown (Fisher) finishes up their season against Villanova and UNC (Leightonn-Armah) plays the no longer undefeated Notre Dame Irish.
