Landon 38 @ Riverdale Baptist 7– 9/25 – Senior Profiles and Bear Track

6 min read

The Bears’ ground game, O line and defense crushed the Crusaders 38-7.

The first three times thevisitors had the ball, they scored. They took the first kick off and drove 70 yards through 5 runs and two passes. Wynston Bouknight  (for the day, 6 runs/61 yards; one pass reception for 34 yards) scored the 1st TD on a 4 yard sweep around right end (PAT, Bears 7-0). The  Bear D stopped RBS on a three-and-out series. Johnny Lynn (3  of 10 passes  for 77 yards and 6 carries for 31 yards ) lead the O down the field in 5 runs, capped off by Myles Allen’s(3 runs-20yds, 2TDs)first touchdown. The Crusaders lone touchdown of the day was on a long run (Bears 14-7). The 3rd Bear TD of the 1st quarter was a shorter drive because Antoine Hudson had a very long return of the RBS kick off. The next play was a 34 yard pass from Lynn to Bouknight followed by a Jeff Johnson run(6 runs 29 yards) and the 2nd TD by Myles Allen. Bears 21- RBS 7 at the end of THE FIRST QUARTER.

On the next series, the Crusaders stopped Landon’s offense for the first time (forcing the Bear’s Alexander Mockett’sfirst punt of the day), but the Bear defense took exception to the RBS inhospitable aggression and on 3rd down Max Lehrman sacked the opposing QB and caused a fumble which the other DE, Luke Howard, recovered.  After a few plays, Bradley Grossman ( 5PATs, 1 FG; 8 points) walked onto the field, saw a good snap from Allan Spiegel (or was it Brad Hayhurst?), a great hold from Tim Keenaand he kicked a 19 yard field goal Landon 24-7 with 5:42 remaining in the half.

RBS took over after the kick off, but their progress was brought to an abrupt halt by DT  Dillon Rupp (who played both ways most of the game on a very hot day) recovered a fumble. the two teams exchanged possession and the first half ended. Landon 24- RBS 7.

Brad Grossman’s second half kick off went through the end zone. Once again, the Bear D (the linebackers Alex Selowsky, Pearce Minshall , DTs Terrence Fullum, Taylor Greene) forced another 3-and-out possession on RBS. The ground game (runs by Pearce Minshall,  Johnny Lynn, Winston Bouknight and Peter Laco) set up a TD by Jeff Johnson (6 rushes for 19 yards, 1TD). Bears 31-7. Another deep Grossman kick off put the Crusaders back on the 19 yard line. They tried a long pass which was deflected and Antoine Hudson had his second interception of the season. Phil Pena (6 rushes 43 yards) led white, dry Bear jerseys on the field  15 yards from another score. Johnny Cobb pushed the ball over the goal line to make it 38-7 (good PAT) and the end of the 3rd quarter.

The fourth quarter, like the Mercersburg contest,  was a test between the home team’s starters and Landon future starters. Will Laco intercepted a pass from RBS and gave his teammates on O the ball.  Sellers Garrett and Mark Strabo ran effectively. On defense, Robby Dunigan and  A. Moore tackled  RBS players for losses.

FINAL SCORE : LANDON 38 RIVERDALE BAPTIST 7

My host family watched many of the same TV shows, listened to much of the same music, and believed and knew many of the same things as I do. American pop culture has spread very far.     I noticed similarities in character between my Peruvian friends and my friends from back home. Many were strong and weak in the same ways that my American friends and I are strong and weak. I learned that, by being human, we intrinsically share a lot.     Playing lacrosse and participating in the bridge-year program are not mutually exclusive. I believe bridge year was beneficial to my lacrosse career. It gave me an opportunity to mature physically and heal from a series of stress fractures. It also made me appreciate being on a team, working toward a common goal as one. Being without that type of environment reminded me of why I love playing lacrosse.     My advice to the new group: ¡Aprovechen! Take advantage! Always be trying something new so that you will always be learning and growing.     ==================================================================================================================NEXT GAME : October 1, Saturday, home 1pm, McDonogh Eagles (3-0) ; preview to be posted mid-week with a senior profile, Bear Tracks and maybe more!!==================================================================================================================    Friday Games    Bullis 37 Maret 0    Saturday Schedule    EHS @ FUMA    Ireton 49 @ SSSA   13 Rockville Pike 6 @ Gilman   42 St. Mary’s Ryken @ StA    Gonzaga 31 @ McNamara   13 Mercersburg @ The Hun School    Woodberry Forest 7 @ McDonogh   35 Whitman 44 BCC 7 ================================================================================================================(a) the content is mine, does not reflect the opinion of Landon, Coach Padalino or anyone directly related to Landon, (b) that any errors that may exist are mine, inadvertent and correctable (please let me know and I will make ALL corrections);(c) that the author (me) is a huge disciple of the Landon team concept and that I will do everything that I can do to mention all the players; however, universal coverage is not really possible through this medium.
