LANDON 27 JOHN CARROLL 14 football

For the 3rd year in a row, the Bears beat the Patriots of John Carroll of Bel Air, MD. This opening home game was another size v. skill contest; the MIAA B division team has a number of large and extra large bodies. The Bears are not emaciated, but they use speed and athleticism as their weapons.

The 1st q ended 0-0, but at half time, the visitors has recorded 13 points v. the Patriots 6. The featured back for the boys from 6101 was #3 senior captain, RUNNING BACK UBIE ZAID.  His incredible balance, deception and strength (many yards after contact) contributed over 100 yards in 11 carries. The home team scored first at 11:10 of Q2 on a 24 yd run over, through and around the Patriots by UBIE;  the PAT was unsuccessful.

Bears 6 Patriots 0

The school named for the bishop who founded Georgetown (by extension GP, too?) was snake bitten. Their 1st play after the Landon kickoff into End Zone by MAX MURRAY (also the QB), the Patriots fumbled. A MURRAY pass to SOPHALEX POPE was followed by a UBIE run and then a picture perfect MAX M to SENIOR WR ROBERT SWIFT for a TD at 9:23. PAT center SWIFTIE (#2) to holder UBIE (#3) and kicker MAX (#6) [believe in numerology?) good @9:23

A Landon  7 plays and fumble series was followed by a Carroll 4 play possession, but the temporary momentum was set back by a TFL (-9YDS) by Senior Captain NICK DAVIDOFF and a excellent pass break-up by Soph DBWILLARD FREEMAN.  Landon drove 62 yards, about 3:00, before a fumble turned the ball over to the Patriots. Bad karma for the Carroll’s again as SOPHAUBREY COLE recovered a fumble @1:42 of Q@.

The Bears did not follow with a long possession and more uncharacteristically did not control the final ~minute and the Patriots scored @0:00 . Junior Captain LB/RB/QB  MATT ROSNER blocked the PAT.

HALFTIME BEARS 13 PATRIOTS 6

Another deep kick-off by Max M put the Bel Air boys deep in their own territory. First play from scrimmage SOPH (are you sensing a trend?) DB ALEX POPE (brother of DP L’25) intercepted the 1st pass of the period pick 6 (42 yards)PAT GOOD @11:22-

The White Rocks forced another 3 and out. Max M found SOPH WR EMANUEL COLEMAN an incredible catch for 28 yards. That set up an impressive 66 yard bruising run through the center of #10 in his junior RB role. PAT good @7:48.

BEARS 27 PATRIOTS 6

Carroll demonstrated a 7 play drive, 32 yards and about 6:00 on the Q3 clock. A JC penalty and a sack by JUNIOR OL/DL ZACK HELMREICH (-5yds) ended that action.

Bears another short bit of time off the clock put the game into Q4. To start the last stanza, Landon punted. A Patriotic charge of 8 plays for +73 notches up the gridiron was terminated when SOPH DB BRYAN MOORE intercepted the spheroid @8:57.

The remainder of the last period saw the Bears play conservatively on O (3 times without a 1st down). Coach Padalino inserted a number of players to experience a competitive game. The last appearance of the defensive leaders saw TFLs on successive downs by SENIOR DL ROWAN HETHERINGTON and #58 NICK (twice).

With 2:20 left, the Carroll team did not fold and their players moved don the field 65 yards to score @ 0:46 plus 2 pt PAT

Landon recovered a onside kick and took two”knees” to run out the clock
